Just checking in to see if there is any hope of a Mac OS version of breakaway being released. I’m not seeing any action there as of yet. I would hope it’s more than an iTunes plugin should it happen. I’d like it to be an audio device I play to.
Back to trying to catch that unicorn pony.
LaneMemberNope. Not arguing anything. My preferences aren’t up for debate. If breakaway is released in a form that integrates with my ways, great. If not, c’est la vie. 🙂 I guess all I can do is wait and see what the future brings.
LaneMemberSorry to hear about the health concerns. I’m not sure what to say there except good luck to the person that needs it.
I’ve probably said this before too, but I won’t be able to use an itunes plugin. I don’t play my music with it. I’m hoping that us Mac folks get one that works like a soundcard the same way it works for the windows folks.
Also, if I’m setting up a rack machine to run a software processor, I’m just not going put windows on it. BSD or nix, sure. I have a whole bunch of reasons for that I won’t bother getting into here. Looks I’m going to be using an inferior sounding solution. Ah well.
LaneMemberI take it from that I should stop waiting around for a Mac version, as it won’t be happening.
LaneMemberI guess you’re going with Breakaway Broadcast Processor. I just wanted to say I’d leave off the last word. Extra bit of mouthful that starts to be harder to remember than just saying "Breakaway Broadcast".
LaneMemberI appreciate the long and complicated answer, and actually, in the context of my question, the answer isn’t long. The short version being "I came up with the idea to use pre-emphasis to my advantage". So this is a Leifism, and not something I need to worry about in the context of the end user and their player.
I feel like I just got some free education. 🙂 Thanks for your time.
LaneMemberi have an m-audio delta 44, and my unscientific evaluation report that it sounds lovely driven by breakway, but I’ve not yet tested it with breakaway fm. I should actually, as I have a small fm transmitter.
LaneMemberinstalled, testing.
I got away with tinybuffer on the previous version. now, running the test, I had to set it to small buffer. not too big a deal I guess. that’s on a p4, 2.4 ghz.
more tests will have to wait for me to actually have my tunes on that computer again. I seem to have misplaced that drive! 🙂
LaneMemberThere are problems with OtsAV? I hadn’t experienced any? (but that was on XP)
LaneMemberI love a happy ending!
but I’d still find a way to also back up at least the essentials. 🙂
LaneMemberTo put linux in perspective, sc_trans from shoutcast is closed source, although free. And steamcast.com is closed source, although free again. I would personally welcome a nix version of breakaway. I’d be way more inclined to dedicate a box to audio processing if I could do it in linux. I just wouldn’t if it had to run windows.
May 3, 2008 at 4:30 pm in reply to: How can I record Breakaway’s output without using 2 computer #4171LaneMemberin the windows mixer, go into recording properties, and select Wave Out, or whatever sounds similar. Then choosing that soundcard in total recorder should be listening to the output. I always make sure I mute everything not used in playback properties as well.
LaneMembergee, I kinda like my m-audio delta 44 using asio. 🙂
although I agree with the point that there should be no weak links in the chain, if it’s going out over FM, I don’t lose that much sleep over it. many of my listeners will be car bound, and the rest are listening on low end consumer boomboxes, clock radios etc. It’s why I need something like Breakaway to begin with. Decrease the dynamic range, get the audio up above the ambient noise without the need to ‘crank it’. i doubt anyone could tell the difference between a soundblaster card and one of your recommendations in those conditions. If I had a transmitter and a recording studio, and had to choose which one got the junk and which got the good stuff, well, I’d take care of the studio first.
LaneMemberThanks for that link. Appreciated!
LaneMemberThanks for that story. Great to hear. Gives me a lot of confidence for a low power MB.
