KeymasterNot yet, but I may add this in the future. Here’s a question though, how come Edcast is forgetting its encoders? I’ve never seen that happen. Does anyone else have any tips?

KeymasterThat sounds bad indeed!
It doesn’t sound like overmodulation to me, it sounds like skipping/crackling.
Can you try Large / Huge buffer size?
Perhaps disable "audio realtime priority", some sound cards work better without it.
Also you could try to load edcast as an encoder plug-in inside breakaway. Enable "Encoders" in the i/o options, and you’ll get a new option in the settings to load encoder plugins. Make sure you set the plug-in to live-recording OFF (it should say Recording from DSP).

KeymasterCertain processors have overshoots from the L/R section, and need composite clipping as a band-aid to reach the full theoretical 92% loudness (with 8% pilot). This type of composite clipping adds distortion, but if the designers were unable to deal with these overshoots any other way, this is the route usually taken.
Breakaway doesn’t have these overshoots, thus a traditional composite clipper has nothing to do except carving further into the waveform, adding a lot of distortion in audio that was previously distortion-free. There is nothing to gain from this. (according to Greg Ogonowski himself. For once, I agree with him.) Breakaway is already providing the full 92% loudness, same as every other FM processor, even those with composite clippers.
My own composite clipper is different, allowing 150% loudness in 100% modulation, unlike any other processor. That’s the one I’m saving for the hardware unit. You can stop asking, I’m not selling it for $299 🙂.

KeymasterHowdy!
Absolutely. Breakaway Live does exactly what you want — in fact it gives you eight speaker outputs with 24-band parametric eq for each output.

KeymasterHello Ronny, can you post the link to your stream, and a screenshot of your Breakaway settings?
Vriendelijke groeten,
///LeifLeif
KeymasterSounds like latency?
What block size are you using?
You could try using the studio (low latency) output for monitoring, instead of monitoring off air.

KeymasterLack of calibration does not cause crackling, so something else is wrong.
What block size are you running?

KeymasterYes, games should use the default device.. In fact, if they don’t, I’d consider that serious bug in the game. Multiple audio devices are not at all uncommon in modern systems. For example, on-board audio, extra audio card, and then a usb headset, and you’ve got three audio devices! If a game was to just choose one at random, that wouldn’t work very well.

KeymasterDue to timing problems, audio is not great in virtual machines.

KeymasterDave, multi-user boxes is too much of an edge case for me to support.
It may work, it may not, but it’s not a supported configuration.Sorry, but I have to draw the line somewhere — there’s not enough hours in the day as it is 🙂.
Best regards,

KeymasterYes, as long as there are no overshoots induced by sound card, stl or exciter. The most common reason for overshoots is poor infrasonic low frequency response in poor exciters.
A good inexpensive exciter is Broadcast Warehouse PLL+ 1W.
More expensive exciters are usually good. Any audio processor (regardless of brand) has the same exciter requirements, so if it does well with other processors, it will do well with Breakaway.

KeymasterHow odd! I running it on my netbook (single core atom n280) all the time, while playing movies, and have never seen this occur. It shouldn’t happen at any buffer setting. What’s the CPU usage on your computer when playing music vs when playing movies?

KeymasterEven though you may not be able to get an exact null, the 0.1dB steps on the MPX ref level control are fine enough for setting the MPX level. Each step is less than 1%, so you’ll easily be able to hit 100% modulation — and even if you have to set it 0.1dB quieter, that’s not an audible difference 🙂.
Best,

KeymasterZeb, try running Eruption on speed 30. Really opens it up.

KeymasterDefinitely. I know it’s a necessary product.
I don’t believe I’ll make a public batch processor though, because there’s just no way of protecting it. My experience is that no matter how inexpensive and good value you make a product, there’s still some who would rather just take it for free, and other individuals with good reverse-engineering skills (and nothing better to do) who help them do it. This really takes the fun out of it, and forces me to worry about protection all the time. It’s also the reason why there won’t be a full control software version.
Anyway, MPX through wifi is a very interesting idea, I know at least a couple of stations personally that would use that right off the bat.
