    Hi,

I am running BBP and while all seems fine I notice that my input meter is blueish towards the bottom and gets yellow (or green?) at the top.

What could I be doing wrong? And how can I correct that?

    Thanks!

That’s the colour coding to help you feed the correct input level.

Try to usually stay in the green zone. If you want more headroom (if you’re in the blue zone, barely reaching the green zone) you can adjust the ITU Ref Level to move the green zone downwards. This adjusts internal parameters (for example downward expanders) to suit your input level.

    Best regards,

    Hi Leif,

Thanks for your answer. I can’t seem to move in the green zone entirely however.

At this point, as you might remember, my set up is pretty simple as I am feeding winamp into BBP for my "track prepping" project.

Lowering input levels brings more blue and lowering the ITU Ref Level tends to bring some red at the top (the blue stays at the bottom).

I don’t recall having similar problems when I was running my radio station’s sound via BBP, is there something I have missed when setting up BBP with winamp? Should be fairly straight forward.

    Thanks for the help!

No need to worry. Being in the red area does not necessarily mean distortion, and being in the blue area does not necessarily mean the level is too low. It’s just there as a guideline, as an aid if you’re broadcasting live and have an actual fader to control.

As long as you never have red flashing meters (clipping), it should be fine.

    Hi Leif!

That’s reassuring, I was afraid that was messing up the rest of the processing chain! Thanks for the answers! 🙂

By the way I love the new Eruption preset, is is unfortunately too processed for my broadcasting needs (I find it’s too busy on the bass side of things for rock after all the encoding is done on a 128k stream) but it is truly amazing..

It really got to me the first time I listened to it, it is just perfect!

    Congrats & cheers,

    Zeb

Zeb, try running Eruption on speed 30. Really opens it up.
