Jesse, in Breakaway broadcast, Leif has suggested setting pre-emph to 15us for streaming. There was some reason for this that I’ve forgotten. However, wouldn’t turning on 55us pre-emph do something to the audio regardless of the source files? This is aside from the limiter.

I only hear this on lower bitrate aac+ streams. Basically, it’s a slight delay before the pre-emph of the encoder kicks in. Its not as noticeable upwards of 64kbps.

Is this your setup? Are you streaming 24-48kbps AAC+?

How much difference are we going to "see" between a 128kb/s MP3 stream and a 128kb/s LC-AAC stream? I’ve listened on and off but I just don’t have the ears to hear much difference in detail.

    Thanks.

Are you applying any EQ before feeding it into Breakaway? It should just be a flat and raw audio feed if it’s from external. If you’re just feeding it digitally over pipelines or livelink (whatever it’s called), it should also be fed raw and not EQ’d.

You should also have the stream going through a core set to broadcast, not speakers. That would bypass most of the settings Jesse mentions.

Oops, it was 85dB, not 83.

JesseG originally had me mp3gain all my mp3s to 83db. You also have to select the option to "Don’t Clip when…".

Also, as far as I understand, there should never be any "quality" or perceptive difference in the audio based on the mp3gain adjustments. It just re-works the volume (again, here I don’t understand it fully) so track-to-track sounds consistent.

I certainly would also appreciate the extra background on what goes on inside mp3gain.

    Thanks.
What is the absolute last version to have the CT version? Or does it still have it also?
According to http://www.winamp.com/help/Version_History#Winamp_5.61

It looks like 5.61 is the last version before 5.62 where they announced the new Fraunhofer codec. I have to look again, but I’m pretty sure the CT encoder is no longer included with the install.

As an aside, I also noticed on AAC+ streams, the kb/s indicator on winamp now fluctuates as if it’s VBR. On my stream, I;m still using the CT encoder but wasn’t aware of it doing VBR… Perhaps that’s how it always was and Winamp never indicated as such. Jesse??
So would that mean I need to install edcast winamp edition? Or just snag the dll out of winamp?
Just pull the .dll file from the winamp install. (Don’t use the Lite version of Winamp)
Can someone tell me where to find an aacplus dll for edcast? So far I only have aac dll.
Generally, it’s been installed with Winamp. Lately, they’ve switched from CT’s AAC+ to Fraunhofer(sp)’s brand. It’s not yet working in edcast.

If you can get a recent version of Winamp 5.5, and do a full install, it will be installed in the plugins folder.

    Good luck.
Nope, Leifwire is audio over IP — including the internet. Not for streaming to users — more like an STL.

The pipelines will also receive a long overdue update, hopefully with all the problems solved this time 🙂.
