none. use whatever works best.
sgeirkMemberUpdate: no clicks or pops in audio using Stereo Tool. Only with BBP ASIO.
Ive been a BBP fanboy since day 1. Just reporting findings.
sgeirkMemberThe Microgen Modulation Analyzer is probably the finest tool I have ever seen for monitoring darn near EVERYTHING. They’re portable…work best (obviously) when connected directly to a tap off the transmission line to minimize error resulting from multipath.
MPX Tool is amazing, Microgren is more expensive and gives a much deeper look at everything: l-r…longterm average carrier deviation…rds…rds errors, for an upgrade, it’ll even read crap HD, too.
sgeirkMemberGood for him!!! Phenomenal product.
sgeirkMemberI set block size to 256 on the Marian and 256 in Breakaway. It seemed to fix the issue. That, and there was a program that was trimmed out of startup that was referencing another. I was getting a DCOM error, fixed that, and the machine seems pretty happy and stable, in fact running ASIO it in low latency mode…no talent complaining about extra delay.
sgeirkMemberI upated the BIOS. Turned off speedstep, and updated all mainboard drivers. Pops and clicks gone. Thank you!!!
sgeirkMemberRunning BBP ASIO and experiencing random crackling, continually.
Will try these steps. Thank you for the informative post.
sgeirkMemberMy setup has been causing something, presumably ASIO to cut out and glitch. I set the buffer size within Breakaway to 256 and within the Marian Software to 256 as well. Anyone have any suggested settings?
sgeirkMemberGot it working! How do I tweak this thing for lowest latency? 512 block sizes all the way through? Perfect Declipper did not appreciate being set up to 4000…caused the machine to reboot when I put it inline.
sgeirkMemberYes, checked asio in the mixer panel for my ins and outs. will unload beakaway and double check with just the mixer running.

sgeirkMemberI’ve had great luck with an EMU0404, however, the software is confusing to setup.
The EMU passes spec with flying colors, but does require a tilt correction of about 6 or 7, on average…with the two I’ve used.
If you can afford it, I suggest the Marian Trace, as others have.
sgeirkMemberCouldn’t have said it better myself.
I’ve seen some posts from other individuals on here talking about the problems they are encountering with their setups…they list their operating system, their chipset and processor…and I just have to scratch my head and wonder why would anyone go this route and NOT use anything remotely close to the system requirements.
I do feel for those that are experiencing issues, though.
I use the latest BBP and Breakaway Live on a variety of machines and have yet to encounter an issue with the software that wasn’t caused by the person in the mirror. 🙂
sgeirkMemberI’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.
The software is as stable as it possibly could be. You should be more concerned about the hardware you run it on.
I’ve had Breakaway Live and BBP running on streaming encoders and on the air without a single hitch or crash.
The on-air BBP machine has been running 7 months without issue. Cheers.
sgeirkMemberI built my own with an intel i5 chipset motherboard, 2 gig ram, windows xp professional, compiled with some spare WD 7200 rpm HD’s we had sitting around, and an EMU 0404 soundcard.
I had a spare case. Total cost? $450.
My results? Fantastic. Machine has been running non-stop on the air since I built it in July. It has only been rebooted once, and that was because I joined it to our domain.
Given what others have said about the Marian Trace card, I would probably recommend it.
Good luck with your purchase!
