Could anyone recommend a budget to mid end soundcard that will happily do RDS etc, its for a FM station that I’m setting up with my university.

Would like nice sound quality but nothing to over the top but don’t want it to sound quiet and cheap.

NB This will be running with breakaway broadcast processor and aeromate or stereo tools

Needs to be 192Khz out minimum, analog out for phonos or 3.5mm… this will then go to a link box then to a band 1 link transmitter then the main broadcast site.

    Hi,
If you have the $$ available, you should go for a Marian Trace Alpha. If on a budget an ESI Juli@ or Maya44PCI are a good quality alternative for around half the price but these latter two will require tilt calibration whereas if you go for the Marian, you can have 100% confidence that no calibration is needed and the quality is the very best available.
There is a large list of cards which will work (including some onboards codecs), a much shorter list of cards that will work well and for absolute quality, the 3 cards I have mentioned are the only ones I consider to be of sufficient quality to show the true potential of the software.

    Hope this helps,

    Yorkie.

I’ve had great luck with an EMU0404, however, the software is confusing to setup.

The EMU passes spec with flying colors, but does require a tilt correction of about 6 or 7, on average…with the two I’ve used.

If you can afford it, I suggest the Marian Trace, as others have.
