Come on, I was just kidding 😉.
///Leif
LeifKeymaster..or just view the decoded L/R in MpxTool. That IS in fact an option, if you haven’t already found it. Right-click the spectrum analyzer 🙂.
How’s the command line tool working out for you?
///Leif
LeifKeymaster‘Sup guys!
Thought I’d give you a not-so-sneak preview of the next version of MpxTool:
What’cha think? 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterHi Kevin!
quote :The ability to take a 192 kHz composite source file and decode it to a de-emphasized L/R 44.1 kHz WAV file, at full processing speed…Done!
http://mpxtool.com/files/mpxdec.zip
I had already written an mpx decoder utility, but it didn’t have sample rate conversion (so it would only output 48k from a 192k file). I added that, cleaned up the command line interface, and here is!
It’s a command line utility — completely free.
quote :The ability of the “Stats” panel to keep a running tally of the highest peak level measured during the current session (recording or playback), so I don’t have to always keep my eye on the meter to catch overshoots.Good idea. Will do for the next version.
quote :The ability to “zoom in” on the 0-20 kHz audio baseband of the composite spectrum, to get a better look at the shape of the processor’s low-pass filter.Sorry, I’m gonna have to veto this one for now — the way the code is written it’d be a major pain in the neck to do zoom, and besides, you see it quite clearly as it is.
quote :Finally, the ability to turn off the built-in 18.5 kHz brickwall filter when in L/R input mode, to get a look at how deep the processor’s own notch around the pilot is.This actually exists already. Open mpxtool.ini in notepad, search for "StereoCoder", and change lowpass from 1 to 0.
3 out of 4 ain’t bad, eh? 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterJust out of curiosity, what are you looking for the preprocessing to do, which BBP isn’t already doing (well enough)?

May 11, 2009 at 9:00 am in reply to: Suspense killing me! What was the surprise at the meetdag? #6986LeifKeymasterquote :I asume if I have a four channel ASIO card, I can get 18ms MPX output on chan 1 (and on 2), and the studio 8ms output on channel 3 & 4.?Yes!
quote :When can I get a beta to test? I’m so curiousWon’t be long 🙂. It’s almost ready.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterquote :Same song, roughly same spot, though it didn’t matter much with this preset, this time with New York.😆 Sounds like the preset is working perfectly then 😉.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterNice one, Scotty! Try it with "New York" 😀.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterAwesome! Glad you got it to work for you.
Just wait until I release BA Live next time, including ITU BS.1770 loudness meter. It should prove to be a great help in getting the levels right (and thus requiring less compression) when mixing live.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterHi Audiophile!
It’s not. For compressors/AGCs, anything less than 100% L/R coupling causes stereo image shifts, and loss of stereo separation. Thus, the algorithms actually don’t support it — there isn’t even an internal coupling control. 🙂
Are you looking to process two mono programs?
///Leif
LeifKeymasterFlay, it’s possible that this would work, but there’s no guarantee that the tuner on a capture card is good for analysis, and you’d certainly have to modify it to get MPX out (and you’d still need a 192 kHz capture card to digitize the signal).
A capture card is virtually guaranteed NOT to have MPX output, but to have the stereo decoding on-board and feed it to the computer only as a standard L/R signal.
///Leif
LeifKeymaster..or use ANY audio recorder with breakaway pipeline. This is possible today, but it’s indeed a lot easier to have a dedicated file processor.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterI can answer that — turn up the final limiter drive!
Watch out for IM distortion though. Don’t crank it too much. Be sure to listen in headphones when checking for distortion.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterAlright 🙂.
That DOES have a chance of happening. It’s one of those things I do want to do, if only I can figure out the technical / business issues.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterThe Orban meter is a loudness meter. This is a DYNAMICS meter. The two are completely opposite 🙂.
