Yes, Passthrough comes with the Trial Version. In fact, the trial is fully functional, but it will inject a “nag voice over” into the stream from time to time until Breakaway One is registered. This enables you to set up a complete end-to-end solution for your needs, and then go back and purchase and license only the cores and components you require.

I suggest that you watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tl8xgSrNg4 where Leif steps through a complete FM setup. You will see near the start where he configures the passthrough.

I’m not familiar with the software you are using, but mine is capable of putting out a formatted string to a specified file and I use that option. In the “core > streaming > overview” section of Breakaway One you can select “Metadata Source: File or URL” from the dropdown box. Then in the field “Location” beneath that box, enter the full path and name of the file e.g. “C:\Title\Metadata,txt”.

That’s it! Each time your software writes a formatted string into the file you specify, BA1 will pick it up and it should appear in your stream player. I use VLC and it works very well.

If it is working, you will see the string (greyed out) in the “Current” box above the selection field.

I haven’t answered because I have no answers. There are countless hundreds of copies of this program running on many different computers and OSs and no-one else is reporting such problems. Obviously it wouldn’t be on the market for so many years if it was so flakey.

I have reached out privately to Leif for assistance, and will report back when I have some suggestions from him.

I am really sorry that you are having this problem, especially when it is demonstrating the same behaviour on several different machines, but I can assure you that BA1 usually is VERY stable. I have to ask the question – is it a licensed version of Breakaway One? The only times that I have heard of such erratic behaviour it has turned out to be a hacked version, which always causes instability.

I’m curious if the problem persists if you run it in foreground (drop it as a service). Is it possible to run Breakaway One, but not as a service in your broadcast environment? It might point us to where the problem is.

Are you using any antivirus software? Can you suspend that for a time?

Hi Shaun. Well, knowing of many installations of Breakaway One that have been running 24/7 for very long times, I’m leaning towards an issue with the 18i20 – possibly driver related. It seems to have a “memory leak” or something that builds up over time, eventually collapsing and causing the distortion.

Is it possible in Device Manager to disable/enable the audio device when the distortion is happening? does this reset the issue? If that is the case, I’d be talking to Focusrite about updated drivers.

I’m not sure where the forum server is located, but it is probably the slowest site of any I subscribe to, and I’m in Australia, which possibly exacerbates the situation.

To my knowledge, there have been no reported outages, but maybe they would go to the webmaster anyway.

If the debugger is running in memory, it should show up on Task Manager, either as a service or actual program.

Temporarily kill it off and then see if BAE will run. If it does, it looks like both programs share some common memory. I would write to the Bitdefender people to see if they can suggest a solution.

You must be running in Trial Mode. When you license the product, the ads go away.

If you have a license, has the MAC address of PC changed. For instance, if you registered using the wifi MAC address, but have now gone to Ethernet, the MAC address will be different and BA1 will revert to Trial Mode until you apply for an updated license.

Here is a video of Leif doing something similar for a demo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tl8xgSrNg4). I’ll try to set my system up between two rooms and report back on my findings.

The wording needs to change on the website. The last release of Breakaway One was compiled with Windows 11 dot net components.

I have two separate systems streaming 24/7 on Windows 11 computers with no trouble at all.

I will notify the Webmaster (not me) to update the site.

Ah Yes! I have a 6 second buffer (mainly to cover phone dropouts in the car), so it takes time to register any changes.

    Glad you got it sorted.

I remember you raising this and I put it directly to Leif.

I usually stream at 48K using AAC.

I have just opened my stream (via BARemote) and tried AAC and HE-AAC at 44100 and 48000 rates and listened via the VLC program to my own stream. If I click on “Tools/Codec Information”, VLC accurately reports both rates correctly. In other words, it is correctly collecting and playing at whatever rate I select in BA1.

I am not using a streaming service, but connect to VLC via a private URL, directly to my home music playout system. I also use it on my phone and Bluetooth it to my car sound system.

So, that brings me back to the differences between what I am doing and what you are doing. Are you streaming through a service like Icecast? Could they be down-converting it? Do you have your Windows sound devices aligned to 48Ks? Similarly, your soundcard setup. If any of these are locked onto 44.1, Windows will down-convert it.

I am reluctant to report it as a bug, as it seems to work fine in my case, but I am happy to work with you to track down the problem.

I have a reply from Leif, and I will paste it verbatim.

“Applying QoS to packets in windows is very difficult — in fact not always possible, as far as I know, depending on windows version and permission level.
There’s also different types of QoS, differently flagged in packets.

The code does attempt to do it, if you’re running as a service, so that BA has admin priviliges, which is actually required.
Can’t guarantee that it succeeds, though. If that’s really important for his particular use case, he may want to configure his network switch to do it.
If he has a switch that cares about QoS to begin with, it can be done there. If his switch doesn’t care about QoS then his question is moot.”

So, are you able to configure QOS in your router/switch? That may be the best option, as it ensures you have direct control over it outside the application.

Apologies for the delay. I have posed the question, but sometimes the answers take a while to come back. I do know that Leif uses AoIP almost exclusively around his own property, so I would be surprised if it wasn’t up to spec.
