Hi,
I have a very annoying issue that has recently started to happen on a couple of my breakaway one machines. I use for streaming and also for FM STL.
I run BAONE as a service and intermittently (since July) the service will restart causing the station to go off air for around 15 seconds. It’s happening roughly daily but some days quite a few times.
I’m running an older version but it has been running flawlessly up until July. 3.19.52.0 I have it running on Windows 10 Pro.
In the event viewer I get this error:

If anyone has any ideas on what it could be I’d be glad of the help.
Thanks you.

Likely some Windows Update changed something and caused the instability. My first thought would be to get the latest release (came out a few months ago) and work from there. New release is posted here: https://ceaforum.net/?topic=breakaway-one-3-30-93-released
September 6, 2023 at 1:04 pm #17273johnzs180ParticipantYes, I feared a windows update may have done it. I’ve just kept this version as it’s always just worked up until recently. I’ll run the update and see what happens.
September 6, 2023 at 2:59 pm #17274MilkyKeymasterI agree with timmywa. If you send that dump through to Breakaway support, it will be the first thing they will suggest as well. I understand the principle of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but I’d suspect a Windows update has done the breaking for you.
Are you using Breakaway Pipeline? I would upgrade to the latest version of that too.
January 29, 2024 at 1:57 am #17328johnzs180ParticipantHi again,
I have now upgraded to the latest version of Breakaway and I’m still getting the same issue of the service randomly crashing and restarting.
January 29, 2024 at 1:37 pm #17329MilkyKeymasterI’m curious if the problem persists if you run it in foreground (drop it as a service). Is it possible to run Breakaway One, but not as a service in your broadcast environment? It might point us to where the problem is.
Are you using any antivirus software? Can you suspend that for a time?
January 29, 2024 at 11:31 pm #17330johnzs180ParticipantHi, I did try this on the older version and it did just close down. I can try that again though to double check.
I am running the software on a machine doing nothing but breakaway. The only AV etc if the built in Windows stuff.
Yesterday I completely re-configured the software. I deleted all the previous config and re-entered everything and it still hasn’t helped.
I have also tried taking the streaming off breakaway and only using the STL encoder but again the issue persists.
The current version is now running on a different machine also to try and get away from the issue but no luck with that either. I’m at a complete loss as up until July I had have had very little issue at all.
Any help continued help would be much appreciated. I have sent some emails and logs to the support email but so far have had no reply.
January 30, 2024 at 6:14 pm #17331MilkyKeymasterI am really sorry that you are having this problem, especially when it is demonstrating the same behaviour on several different machines, but I can assure you that BA1 usually is VERY stable. I have to ask the question – is it a licensed version of Breakaway One? The only times that I have heard of such erratic behaviour it has turned out to be a hacked version, which always causes instability.
January 30, 2024 at 11:04 pm #17332johnzs180ParticipantHi, Yes it’s a proper licenced version. I am running the latest version from the installer that was posted on this forum and it’s running as a clean install on a fresh windows 10 install too.
I’ve changed the STL encoder from FLAC to MP3 320k to see if that helps. I’ll report back in due course.
February 1, 2024 at 1:06 am #17333johnzs180ParticipantUnfortunately I’m still having the same issue.
I’m at a complete loss with this. Everything was working fine up until June/July last year and now this and I just can’t figure out what it is…
My next plan is to change the streaming provider as a last resort. Although I did still have the issue when I remove the streaming completely.
I’m a bit stunned that I haven’t heard anything from support. The product is great, it does everything I want but I just can’t carry on with the drop outs forever.
It’s crazy to think that people are paying for this and not getting issues like this fixed…
Any help or support would be appreciated.
February 2, 2024 at 12:36 pm #17334MilkyKeymasterI haven’t answered because I have no answers. There are countless hundreds of copies of this program running on many different computers and OSs and no-one else is reporting such problems. Obviously it wouldn’t be on the market for so many years if it was so flakey.
I have reached out privately to Leif for assistance, and will report back when I have some suggestions from him.
February 2, 2024 at 12:46 pm #17335johnzs180ParticipantHi Milky,
I appreciate that and my comments weren’t aimed at you directly. I have emailed the support email address directly with comments and logs and I’ve had no answer so I appreciate you trying your best for me.
I have been running the software before with no issues but for some reason something had changed and is causing the issue.
If you get any update for me it would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much.
JohnMarch 12, 2024 at 10:06 am #17351wgrtParticipantI too am experiencing this issue. Breakaway crashes roughly every 24 hours resulting ins silence for 10 seconds or so while the service restarts itself. It only started to happen since updating to the latest release a few months ago. My Windows install has had Windows Update disabled permanently, so this in not a problem in my case.
Crash logs look like this:
// 2024-03-08 BreakawayOne Event log

So far, not one of these has failed despite running as a service 24/7. I myself have two different branded i7 laptops streaming all day every day, and it never goes wrong.
I’m not trying to duck the issue, just reassure you that we are working on it, but itseems to be very specific to now two different environments, when many thousands of others are using the same service and not experiencing the problem.
Can you please provide specifics of your mainboard, RAM, sound card and any other software that you are running, so we can drill down on what might be causing the problem.
March 14, 2024 at 1:29 am #17353johnzs180ParticipantHi again,
I’m glad this isn’t just me – I was starting to think I was going mad.Just to go over what I have done so far:
I have tried this now on 2 different machines (2 different models of HP – one quite high sped Xeon machine with lots of RAM, the other a more budget i5 machine with 8gb RAM.)I have tried 3 different sound cards on both machines. A Behringer, a Steinburg and the Dante software sound card.
I’ve tried wiping my configuration and starting again in case it was something in the config.
It doesn’t matter what I do it seems to keep happening roughly every 24 hours or so. It could happen more often than that or less often. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern.
I’ve even tried changing my icecast streaming provider and even disabling the streaming encoders and that didn’t help.
I am running the built in encoder too which I have tried disabling and that also doesn’t help.
My streams read a txt file for the Now playing info – again I have disabled this while testing too.
I hope we can get to the bottom of this some how as the software is great other than this issue.
From memory, the software started doing this at some point in June last year.
I hope this helps in some way.
