Try using Virtual Audio Cable 4.14, instead of the built-in Pipelines. They are very old versions and have trouble with win 7+
First spend the $25 and get the full version of Virtual Audio Cables. Then point the Output of SPL to VAC Line 1, make VAC Line 1 the Input on Breakaway. The audio will feed straight into Breakaway. Be sure you set the Ms per int to 1 on the VAC Control Panel for each cable. If you use an outboard encoder, then you'll use VAC Line 2 as the output of Breakaway and the Input of your encoder.
I highly recommend spending the few dollars on VAC as Win 7 and 8 have buffering and skipping issues with the VAC version that's built-in to Breakaway (Pipelines).
You said that Omnia should consider creating a low-cost software option.. I answered with A/XE. Not sure how that's an incorrect response. Also, I wasn't aware of the full on price of Stereo Tool. Thanks for clarifying.
I think Omnia's ProStream A/XE is right around $400… That's pretty dang low-cost, relatively. Stereo Tool maxed out is like $150.
I'm thinking this kind of negative and cutting commentary doesn't necessarily help to encourage or motivate Leif to do anything for us. Again, I'll state my complete satisfaction with Breakaway in it's current state. It still blows away many other hardware and software options. Are there better options and newer technologies or methods of sound processing available, of course! But what is abnormal about that? I was 6 years old, absolutely LOVING my Atari 2600! But, my buddy up the street had a ColecoVision and it blew my Atari out of the water! Did I stop playing my Atari, or even stop begging my parents to buy more games? Nope. Because I was satisfied and happy with my game. Yes, there was better and I could always go to my buddy's house and play.
Ultimately, posting this kind of crap is NOT HELPING. I still have faith that Leif and co. will bring something out soon. Meanwhile, I'm totally happy with Breakaway and will continue using it. And if it doesn't happen, oh well. There's Stereo Tool, A/XE, 9/XE, Orban PC1101, and on and on….
I think it's actually been four years. But in it's current state, Breakaway is an incredible piece of software for it's price. Yes, there's been huge strides in the science of audio processing and incredible features like Undo and Chameleon/Solar Plexus have been released and are fantastic. But who's to say that any of that will make it into the "new Breakaway"? If so, they'll certainly be for a premium price. If they are included, why would anyone spend the $1500 on Omnia 9/xe? So there are some interesting issues going on in the House of Claesson… I'm still feeling confident that there will be something new soon and it will blow us all away.

I think there's also some requirement that some support files need to be installed in the same directory as Breakaway. I couldn't tell you which, but for even edcast to launch in breakaway, I had to have bass.dll and some other files that I can't recall in the same folder. Sorry that's not super helpful, but it may steer you in the right direction.

Try the different selectors between KS, WAV, DS, etc and see if you don't get things to show up. (KS is most recommended)

Challenger is not a plugin. It's in the normal settings page. Along with HPF/LPF filter type and such. There should be a button roughly in the middle for that feature. Unless you have a really early version that didn't include it, it should be there.
I don't know many plugins. Leif had some posted here.. Things like auto-balance, phase rotator, attenuator, etc.. but since stereo enhancer is built-in, called Challenger, I wouldn't imagine an external one being much use. You may have to search around the forums to find links to those plugins.
Go to the I/O settings and be sure you have Effects enabled. Then click out of that screen and go to the normal settings screen. you should see effects there, click Edit and you'll be taken to the interface to enable/disable any dsp plugins. You enable them, then browse and click ok. Then click re-load to turn them on. Click Config if the plug has a config page.
