This guide is for Breakaway Broadcast or Breakaway Live.As for which one to use: If you want it *loud* and processed, use Breakaway Broadcast. If you want lighter processing, you can use either Broadcast or Live.
Encoder plug-in: Use EdCast. Do not use Shoutcast. EdCast sounds about a hundred times better — no exaggeration. You may still use a Shoutcast or Icecast server.
Download the version for Winamp, from here: http://code.google.com/p/edcast-reborn/downloads/list
For Edcast to work, you may also need the VS2005 SP1 redist package. Download here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&DisplayLang=en
When you install it, do not check the "LAME encoder dll" box.
Install it to Breakaway’s Folder. For BBP, this is normally c:program filesbreakawaybroadcast. For Live, this is normally c:program filesbreakawaylive. Do not add "plugins" or anything else — it needs to be Breakaway’s own folder, not a sub-folder.Then, download the LAME encoder DLL: [attachment=1:8paqh17h]lame3.93.1.zip[/attachment:8paqh17h] Place lame_enc.dll in Breakaway’s Folder.
Download this AAC (LC/HE/PS) encoder by Coding Technologies which used to come with Winamp: [attachment=0:8paqh17h]enc_aacplus.zip[/attachment:8paqh17h] Place enc_aacplus.dll in Breakaway’s Folder.
Copy the following files from Winamp to Breakaway’s folder:
nscrt.dll
bass.dll
libfaac.dll
libflac.dll
ogg.dll
pthreadvse.dll
vorbis.dllIn the Breakaway I/O configuration, make sure the "Encoders" button is checked. Press OK.
In Breakaway, press Settings. If using Breakaway Broadcast, choose 15us pre-emphasis.
Under "Encoder Plug-ins", press Edit. Enable one of the slots. Press Browse, and browse to C:Program FilesBreakawayBroadcastPluginsdsp_edcast.dll (if that’s where you installed it to). Please note that the edcast installer automatically creates a plugins folder for the actual dsp_edcast.dll. This is fine.Press Reload. EdCast should pop up.
Click once on the meters, to turn them on. You should see audio going through. If you notice the meters are similar to Breakaway’s meters, why you’re absolutely correct. I gave Ed the source code for my meters a few years back, since he needed some 😉.
Click Add Encoder, then double-click on the newly created encoder. Choose Encoder Type: MP3 Lame, and set up everything else. Press OK, and press Connect. It should be feeding the server, and you should be getting audio.
When all that’s done, shut down Breakaway. Go to My Computer, and browse to C:Program FilesBreakawayBroadcastPlugins. You should see dsp_edcast_v3_1.cfg. Right-click this file, choose Open With, and click your way through until you can select Notepad.
You need to change a few settings inside the file:
Code:
LameCBRFlag=1
LameStrictISO=0
LameDisableReservior=0
LameQuality=0
LAMEPreset=12Thanks to Jesse G for the edcast INI settings! This is equivalent to "–alt-preset cbr [bitrate] -q 0" on the command line. I had no idea you could do this with the DLL too.
Save the file, start Breakaway again.
Your done!

You guys will never take it from me againJanuary 14, 2011 at 12:27 am #11764timmywaParticipantA few updates. If you’re using the Fixed Edcast from Club Rio, you no longer need NSCRT.dll or the VS2005 add-on. Bass.dll is part of edcast as well (I might be confusing the dsp version with the standalone). He’s also added some killer functions to it such as attenuation per encoder along with several fixes to the code. All that detail is on his site as linked above.
The biggest benefit to the attenuation is that you can run your MP3 stream at full volume but can cut the AAC+ streams by the 2db as discussed before here, to avoid clipping.
We also need Jesse to repost his Best for MP3 streaming version of Lame Encoder. I believe 3.91 but don’t quote me.
Thanks for this though, it’s invaluable for us stream-heads!

February 7, 2011 at 3:07 pm #11766AudioMemberI tried to check the above-mentioned links:
Download the version for Winamp, from here: http://users.tpg.com.au/radiorio/
Then, download the LAME encoder DLL: http://stashbox.org/810352/lame_enc.dll … eaming.zip
But these links are going nowhere for me, would anyone know how to get these files?
Thanks!

February 9, 2011 at 12:18 am #11767dancemusicradioParticipantwould i be able to load the standalone version in breakaway or would it be just the winamp one?
February 9, 2011 at 4:53 am #11768timmywaParticipantThe winamp one as it is a DSP plugin, not a full application.
February 9, 2011 at 8:01 pm #11769dancemusicradioParticipantit won’t let me install it in breakaways folder if i browse to it i can’t click okay but if i browse back to winamps folder i can click okay
February 10, 2011 at 3:28 am #11770JesseGMemberthe installer checks for winamp.exe in the currently selected directory.
February 10, 2011 at 1:39 pm #11771dancemusicradioParticipantso how do i get it to install in breakaways folder instead of the winamp folder? as i said i’m able to install it in winamps folder but the installer won’t let me install it in breakaways folder.
February 10, 2011 at 1:56 pm #11772JesseGMemberyou don’t. you install it into winamp folder, and then copy the files, as suggested in Leif’s original post.

You can also fake the installer by creating a new notepad file and name it winamp.exe. Then run the installer and delete the fake winamp.exe.
