ParticipantThanks, Conor for the info. I’ve heard that you can even run XP without explorer.exe. I can’t imagine how you would be able to navigate/start/stop programs without that interface.
I’ve gotten myself into trouble by disabling too many services. I really am not fluent in any Linux OSs so that’s not really an option. I also think that Breakaway won’t run on it.
I would like to hear from the seasoned vets here on how to trim the fat on a fresh windows xp install. The only other item I would be running is free AVG for anti-virus. Yes, I need to have networking on this system as I would be streaming from this system.
Thanks again.

ParticipantYeah, i scowered the manuals and online forums. I think they may have mis-matched the processor with the motherboard… Who knows. So in setting up a dedicated winxp box for strictly BAL Zara Edcast & shoutcast… what extra services and startup programs can I set to disabled or manual and not compromise system stability? I turn off indexing, i turn off zeroconfig as there’s no wireless. there are a few others I set manual or disable entirely like desktop themes, etc…
I guess my main question is how slim can I get XP to run??
Thanks again!

ParticipantCool input, folks! Thanks. I did end up putting xp sp3 on it. Now to figure out why the CPU-id reported 2.4ghz Processor is only running at 1.79ghz….. Fun Fun!

Participant
Then again, Plutonium is a good sounding preset. I suppose there is merit to including it in BAE. Alright guys, you win!
Excellent! So… the obligatory follow-up…. When?
Thanks, btw. You’re product and personability is 2nd to none!

ParticipantI echo those thoughts! I love processed sound on my music. Let plutonium or even the upcoming rustonium be featured on BAE!

Participant
The benefit is that it filters out thumps, rumble and other sounds that are too low frequency to hear.
I would only comment that some of those sub-audible sounds may not be recognized by most ears but decent speakers will still vibrate at those lower frequencies, increasing the impact of some of that low bass. The "invisible bass" that you feel!

ParticipantLeif,
Thanks for the direct answer.. Streaming unlicensed music isn’t "supported" by ASCAP, RIAA, etc.. either… ehehe.
Just looking for solutions that fit within my budget (it was $30 per year!!)
Thanks!

ParticipantSo has anyone exercised Windows 7’s audio? I just wonder if it’s the same as Vista or if it’s been improved…

ParticipantZeb, What sound cards do you currently have in each system? I would say that if you had digital or s/pdif that would be the cleanest… otherwise we need further info.

ParticipantI’m with you! Very natural and transparent processing. Jesse said he tried to do as much processing as he could without it sounding like he was. Very clear and clean and good, balanced EQ. I kept going back to it while I was testing the others. So I quit fighting and "settled" on Zenith. Love it.

ParticipantThanks, Leif! I appreciate the tips. I will continue to fiddle with things. How does gating fit in with BAE? I remember playing around with SoundSolution and you could max out the AGC Max Gain but limit the gate so it will only reach so far to gain up a soft portion of the song. Jesse mentioned gating is involved but it is intelligent and basically runs itself. My guess is it’s among the controls adjusted along with the Range setting.
Thanks again for the response and the incredible product!
