Thanks, Sgeirk 🙂.
I agree. It’s one thing to make a random statement, but it’s quite another to actually back it up. Or, as Americans say: "Talk is cheap". 🙂Cyborg, Live has other uses. For example the parametric eq allows it to be used for speaker calibration, and Breakaway Live is also suitable for web and digital radio, and does its job with far less cpu power than BBP ASIO requires.

LeifKeymasterMan, you lost me. 🙂
Sgeirk, draw a diagram? That’ll be a lot easier to grasp.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterHave you checked the level in the Juli@ control panel?

August 22, 2009 at 2:02 pm in reply to: Some minor issues/bugs with the Breakaway volume control… #4878LeifKeymasterHi Milligoodz!
There’s a few known issues with the volume control, and this wasn’t one of them, so thank you for the heads up! I’m reworking the volume control method for the next release, so I will definitely keep this in mind, and make sure there will be an acceptable workaround or fix.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterHi Jay!
Actually, 96 would have no advantage over 48.
192 can do MPX, but 96 cannot. So, use 48 🙂.

LeifKeymasterA TV is 15,625 Hz in Europe and 15,750 Hz in the states.
Indeed 14,850 would be way more annoying. I think they just picked a number for the marketing, i don’t think they’re really broadcasting it. 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterOops, that’s a bug indeed! I’ll take a look at it.

I’m worried that he might back off the processing on the web stream and leave the FM sounding distorted. It’s better to keep them the same until the FM sound is done 🙂.quote :Should be nice at the upcoming release of BBP to have the option on each output of BBP for a pre-emphasis selection/adjustment.That’s actually not possible. Pre-emphasis must be done before the clipper, and the clipper is by far the most cpu-consuming processing element of BBP. To have separate options, we’d need separate clippers, and CPU usage would double or triple. It’s easier to just keep the instances completely separate — that way we can also set different settings.

August 21, 2009 at 10:40 am in reply to: Breakaway at the FM broadcasting scene! let’s go …FM! #8146LeifKeymasterNo need for separate web processing yet, bass distortion + lack of treble does not sound any better on FM than it does on the web. FM exciters and tuners do not magically clean up distortion from bad audio processing, even though certain audio processing manufacturers seem to hope they do.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterAh! Transition Width / Slope are specifically for rolling off treble, that would explain it 🙂.
Treble is much better, but I still hear the same bass distortion problem though.
When listening for distortion, it’s not a good idea to stay tuned to the same stream for 3-4 songs as the ears then start to get used to the distortion (at first) and then get tired of listening (a little later). If checking 3-4 songs due to varying source material, the trick is to listen for a short while, then stop the stream, and tune in again 3 minutes later.

August 21, 2009 at 7:09 am in reply to: When using livelink, there is no speaker output on soundcard #8106LeifKeymasterThat’s correct — livelink interrupts the path and sends the audio back to SAM.
The trick is to disable the L/R output in BBP (and if that doesn’t work, set it to an unused pipeline), and instead set SAM to output to the sound card. That way you’ll get the processed sound from the sound card.
Pushing the sound back to the sound card as well is possible in theory, but not in practice, due to timing issues. When LiveLink DSP is in use, Breakaway uses the DSP host application as the clock source, and thus Breakaway’s timing gets very jittery. This doesn’t matter for LiveLink DSP as there are large buffers in place to prevent any issues, but it doesn’t have these large buffers for the output sound card.
I may revisit Livelink DSP in the future when I have a better idea for how to implement it, but for now, the usage scenario for Livelink is very strict.

Heh heh 🙂. Yeah, that’s what I thought when I heard it too.
I still don’t have a PM from you with the settings though.
George:
Indeed. It’s a very difficult case. Hopefully I can think of a solution. 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterLOL, damn dude, if I didn’t know better I’d think you actually like distortion. Man, I think I’m in the wrong business. 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterDon’t worry, I won’t break the algorithm to fix a single song, I’ll only make changes that improve the average quality of the algorithm. 🙂
Ah, Rustonium. I need to test that preset more, perhaps the bass clipper threshold needs to come down a bit. I didn’t make any modifications from the one Jesse sent me, and I didn’t test it all that thoroughly myself.
Camclone, could you PM me the exact settings and plug-ins you’re using so I can recreate the chain and see if I can do something about the distortion without losing loudness?
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterHi George,
Holy crap, that’s not good. If I hadn’t just heard that come out of my own BBP, I would have sworn it was an Orban. Damn! This is going to take me a while, that’s a HARD one.
Thanks for the tip!
