We’re running an EMU 0404 soundcard and it’s associated software…and I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out how to get audio into our SOS encoder on the same machine…not having an easy time of it.

I have Breakaway setup to receive audio off of the default card…using DS…and the output is breakaway pipeline 1 using DS.

The EMU0404 card is setup to send to the Wave Host.

The SOS encoder is setup to receive audio from Breakaway Pipeline 1 and the send is set to primary sound driver and "send final audio to soundcard" is unchecked.

Breakaway doesn’t appear to be "inline"…although it IS getting audio, it appears.

I think your encoder needs to be pulling audio from the soundcard… or the Output from Breakaway’s i/o control. The unprocessed audio is on the pipeline (input on i/o settings).

    Man, you lost me. 🙂

Sgeirk, draw a diagram? That’ll be a lot easier to grasp.

That’s the problem…the EMU software is insanely complicated.

    We’d like to go audio inputs>EMU soundcard>breakaway live input(wave)>breakaway pipeline 1>to edcast

Streamaudio does audio playout from it’s ad insertion software…we’re using a soundblaster and it works well…but with the EMU card…it’s hairy getting the playout from the software to "mix in" with the card.

Perhaps we’ll just use the onboard audio card on this machine.

I’ve used EMU0404 PCI once, and it confused the hell out of me — I couldn’t for the life of me select 192k. It wasn’t until I (by reading the manual) found out that I had to create a new project at that sample rate, that I finally figured it out.

Anyway, the chain you describe is no different from recording from the card. I know this is possible — a friend of mine at Swedish Radio (who is the owner of that EMU0404 card) is now using the EMU 0404 for RDS input and MPX output, and a LynxOne for digital AES/EBU L/R audio input.

If you have just installed the drivers from the disk, the soundcard is difficult to use as a device in windows, like a conventional soundcard. Download the 2 latest files from the Creative website, theres the driver file: "EmuPMX_PCDrv_L6_2_00_11.exe and the controll app file: "EmuPMX_PCApp_L6_2_10_00.exe", install both of these and the card will then appear as a normal sound device in sound manager. This will make it possible to use in most apps, especially as an input device.

    Hope this helps.

I like this message board…processing freaks plus radio and streaming folks, awesome 😛 !!! Thank u, you described the issue…it’s as though the card isn’t part of windows.

I would really rather just control the card from the windows mixer, frankly, since I’m not looking to start or stop a nuclear power plant. 🙂

Wow, nice one, Yorkie! I never would have guessed this myself, since I always install the drivers off the web anyway (been bit by buggy shipped drivers too many times).

Glad you got it sorted, unfortunately tho, the Patchmix DSP program does have to be running at all times otherwise the card is shut down too. The new driver does however make the card act like a normal windows sound device which is what we needed. I think it is possible to have some control from windows volume control but not much.

Leif, I know what you mean about drivers, this is also the case for most Creative cards, I have found most of the Audigys will only work in 192Khz mode with web drivers (and all the FX turned off)..
