Hey another question, Jesse:
So you wouldn’t auto-vary the compression ratio, then? Just the thresholds?
Whenever I’ve thought about this idea myself, I always pictured it as: “If input song is more compressed", then “we use a lower compression ratio in response to that”.
celarMemberNow THAT’S what’s really needed here!
That feature will be hugely important for "Jack" stations, where the average loudness of the input songs is all over the place.
This is the first time I’ve even heard another human being besides myself mention this idea. Thanks 4 the validation.
celarMemberThanks!. For a minute I was worried I would have to point that out… hee hee
celarMember
It just goes to show that Breakaway really allows great flexibility in adjusting the sound, from Awesome to Horrendous.
Which is especially useful to me, working here at Horrendous 101.9.. . 😀celarMember.
Tell me what you think of these settings?. I’m really starting to like this sound.
.celarMemberLeif, we’re not even in the software sales business; we probably oughta just give it away!.
The version we have probably wouldn’t work in general use, because we had the programmer create it for our specific installation (and it doesn’t have the standard functions to support any other configuration).. But who knows, if we had him flesh it out a bit, we might really have something here.
celarMember

This was good news to me because once we finally got rid of the dropouts on our Vista system
How’d you do it?? 🙂I’m ready to reformat and upgrade my laptop to XP.

Oh, well Leif you’re going to love this… we hired a programmer!. He ended up writing a custom Wave DLL for us, to take the place of the DLL that comes with Vista.. And that finally got rid of the dropouts.. It requires us to select "Wave" I/O in BBP, which is rather antiquated, but it does work.. Sheeesh, what a headache that was.
Maybe we should sell this DLL to Microsoft…
celarMemberThanks Dave- yes I will definitely "stay tuned" to this thread.
If you do end up concluding the problem lies with Vista, I will need to do some serious listening tests of my own! Thanks in advance for any info you come up with…
celarMemberDave,
Ok, now you’ve got me interested in this problem too! As far as I know, all the audio problems with Vista pertain to audio dropouts and glitches (not actual distortion). This was good news to me because once I finally got rid of the dropouts on my Vista system, I thought I was okay.
But now you’re telling me there might be even more to worry about! Aaaack… So my question is, have you read about other audio issues in Vista, besides dropouts? If so, I would appreciate if you could point me to those articles so I can have a look too. Thanks very much.
celarMemberI’ve had the same thought myself. There’s a station in my area with perfect, resonant bass, and I wanted to send Leif a recording so he could advise on how to replicate it. But he only accepts MPX recordings for that purpose and I don’t have the right equipment.
That special "resonant" bass quality is something I’m still seeking in my BBP setup.

I would love to get info about the "trade-off" between regular BBP vs. low-latency BBP. (I’m guessing it’s in the clipper!) I’m sure you’ll have that info on the site when BBP-LL is offered for sale.
Great- can’t wait to hear more updates from the field.
celarMemberThanks Jesse. That is VERY interesting information. I sure appreciate you sharing your observations about the Bass EFX plugin.
celarMembercelarMemberThat would be cool. Twente is such an excellent preset. Any attention you can give it (to bring the treble in line with other presets) would pay off a dozen times over.
