I almost forgot: the sound on most TV programs and especially commercials are horrendous! I would much rather have my TV audio sound like my records used to (yes, actual RECORDS) than the other way around.
Ah, here’s the problem. You’re an analog engineer forced to live in a digital world.
BIG F’ING DEAL. Anybody who says they would much rather listen to records in the year 2010 should be executed by a firing squad on the spot. Grow up.
AdamHMemberFor someone who claims to be a professional, you sound like a little bitch. Why would you come into a forum, completely unprovoked, and tell everybody here (in your own special way) that we are all a bunch of morons for using a piece of software? Get over yourself. And go away.
AdamHMemberVista…One of the most offensive words ever uttered. 😆
AdamHMemberIf anyone is interested, I discovered what was causing this…and it only took 10 days of ripping my own hair out!
The Gigaport HD does not support KS, and if you try to initialize it as such, the driver locks the PC up. So it has to be fed with DirectSound instead. Now, everything is good. I’m thinking that if I comb through the forums enough, I would probably find somewhere that Leif or Jesse have said that not all sound cards support KS.
Adam
AdamHMemberNot sure why you would have interference to the sound card. Did you get a free toaster with that motherboard?
The size and form-factor are relevant because some smaller operations are limited on what they can put in a rack, especially if it’s a shared site or LPFM. Not all of us have the honor of blasting all-Greek, all the time over whatever blowtorch you’re operating. There have also been a couple people who have asked for this config in the forum because not everyone is using Breakaway in terrestrial radio…there are several installs of Breakaway Live in datacenters.
I understand that English is not your first language, but maybe you should consider proof-reading your comments before you hit the ‘Submit’ button. Just because you find this idea ‘stupid’ doesn’t mean that others do, and this wouldn’t be the first time you’ve shot off at the mouth.
Adam
AdamHMemberThere may be an issue here regarding the width of the card. I have a call into a tech who is on the prod line right now figuring out a way to make it work. I’ll let you know the outcome, but either way, it’s a nice box.
AdamHMemberYep, it has a riser card in it that turns the backplane 90 degrees. I would imagine that the only caveat is the card can’t be too deep.

AdamHMemberHaving met Leif at NAB, I can tell you that we are all in good hands. The guy knows his stuff, and he will gladly spend an hour answering any questions you could possibly think of…such as "who is this JesseG guy?" and "what are your thoughts on Native American persecution in the 1800’s?".
Leif, you are the man.
I pity all of these peeps who are going back to Europe from Vegas, only to find that most European airspace is shut down right now. Thanks volcano.

AdamHMemberJust wanted to add something to my previous post. After reading it, I wanted make sure that I made it clear that BBP is not difficult to install, but anything, when put into the wrong hands, can be broken. Not that Mugambi’s hands are the wrong hands, but you know, just sayin’.
An experienced installer could never hurt.
Adam
AdamHMemberHellz yeah!
I just booked my flight yesterday…I’ll be getting in on Tuesday around 10 AM, and heading back to Tampa on a redeye Wednesday night. We must meet up.
Will you have a booth, or are you just going to be cruising under the radar?
AdamHMember
(1) How does your software compare with the other boxes – Omnia 6, Optimod 8500 etc?
Setup properly, BBP will be competitive, loud, and most likely better than anything from Orban and Omnia (not to mention being about 1% of the price). But…you need someone to set it up properly for that to be reality.
(2) Where do I start to sample your software? I downloaded the trial version from http://www.claessonedwards.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82 on my laptop but was not able to do anything! I clearly need more hardware??
You can use a laptop for testing. You’ll need to have your media player output to Breakaway Pipeline 1, and then set BBP up to use Pipeline 1 as input and your soundcard as output. You won’t get a real accurate perception of the complexity of setting it up from doing this, but at least you’ll be able to hear it working.
(3) Is there someone who can take me through the process of installing and setting up the trial software? I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop with standard I/O features, Also have a dell desktop computer. Thats it- any help please? I am really interested in exploring this option.
I think that is answered in the previous question. Reading the documentation will fill in the blanks.
(4) What support is there for the software? how stable is it to be left alone in a computer on a remote transmission site- visited maybe twice or thrice per year?
Leif is fantastic at supporting users. This forum is your biggest ally. There are hundreds of people in here who will help you out for free, your only expense being patience. But with that said, almost any issue that you would run into has already been addressed by someone.
As far as remote monitoring capability, you would be just fine installing LogMeIn or VNC on the PC to manage it. As long the BIOS is set to turn the PC back on after a power failure, you should have no problems.
It sounds like you are very unfamiliar with this. You shouldn’t attempt an install of this product without someone qualified to properly equip the PC and install it within specs. If you’d like someone to provide consultation, up to and including installation, please contact me privately through here. I’ve always wanted to see Africa!

AdamHMemberHey druidhillsradio,
I’ve seen you on the Tampa board of Radio-Info. Do you live here in Tampa?
Adam
AdamHMemberKind of thinking back a little bit, wasn’t WCBS in New York the first FM streamer to use BA Live on a larger scale? I remember that Arbitron flipped their wig when WCBS’s stream actually showed up in the book, and I know that NYC has been in PPM for years.
AdamHMemberI know I’m late to the party, but I definitely want to throw in my 2 cents.
I use BA Live right now in a 2-channel HT setup. The audio from all components is sent to the TV, and then output via the stereo RCA output on the back panel. I run the audio from there into a dedicated PC with an AP 2496 card in ASIO mode, process the audio, and then send it to the stereo amp. This is nice, but I want to use 5.1 surround.
Leif…Is it possible to route the audio into the PC through some sort of digital I/O (maybe the 1010 PCI card), process it, re-multiplex it, and then route it to the amp on a digital coax cable?
If so, that would be kick-ass.
The other option is to somehow take the multiplexed digital signal from the coax, and then de-multiplex it into 6 discrete analog signals that are fed via RCA. Some people are going to whine and say "but it’s analog blah blah blah…", but most receivers still allow for 6-channel RCA inputs.
Oh, and are you going to NAB or not, mister? If you are, I need to book my flight so that we cross paths.

AdamHMemberJesse,
You’ve piqued my interest on this one.
First observations… Nice and open. Release seemed to be working a little too fast. Back end seems much more ballsier than in other presets…good for the most part, but I could hear it choking the sound every once in awhile while the multiband caught up (read below for my ironically contradicting statement). I could hear a few parts in the Paramore song where it seemed like the AGC was working slightly behind the curve, but I think that could be easily fixed.
On the subject of the backend…I’m glad to hear this preset limit the shit out of sudden bursts of loudness. I know a lot of people say that the newer Orbans over-choke the audio when it exceeds a certain threshhold, but I’d rather see the backend control the audio if the multiband can’t. I’ve noticed that a few presets in Breakaway will cause the rollercoaster effect on loudness bursts, but this one seems to tame the dynamics well (as you advertised 😉).
My only suggestion…make the release globally slower. Honestly, I would love to see a preset where the Speed slider controls 75% attack and only 25% release. Does that make sense? For example, I am using Cleveland right now (love the midrange for the modern rock format), and the Speed slider is at 67. The attack works swell at that speed, but the release is way too fast. Between 40-50, the release is in its sweet spot, but the attack suffers. Maybe make a ratio of 3:2…every 3 ticks of speed increases attack by 3 and release by 2.
Well done.
