    Dumb question…but just making sure.

BA Live will not remove the sub-audible PPM encoding tone, will it?

I don’t know that anyone has tested this, but it should be fine. PPM uses a pretty strong watermarking, and if it can (and probably does) survive through many stages of lossy codec compression, not to mention the whole system is working through "acoustic coupling"… Breakaway shouldn’t touch it.

Even a moderately strong watermark can survive 15-20 or more stages of mp3 compression AND several stages of acoustic coupling. 😀 The music on the other hand…. 😆

Kind of thinking back a little bit, wasn’t WCBS in New York the first FM streamer to use BA Live on a larger scale? I remember that Arbitron flipped their wig when WCBS’s stream actually showed up in the book, and I know that NYC has been in PPM for years.

Yep, and between that and their switch back to Classic Hits, they rocketed almost instantly to #5 in the market. They are now #2. Scientifically testing (which is what I meant by "testing") may have not been done, but the real world results speak for themselves.

The likelihood that Breakaway had anything to do with it, other than listeners preferring the sound quality, is pretty slim… but that couldn’t be proven without some actual testing.
