lpy7MemberHey Leif,
Was having the same problem with BA Live, but I solved it with VAC 3.12 (you might remember me mentioning this a while ago), and it’s been fine since. Also it’s recently started with BA Personal, but of course, I have no option but to use the Breakaway Pipeline with that one. If I use that DPC Latency Checker program to check the latency (or open any program that uses audio), the problem is gone until I close it, so I’m unable to see what the latency goes to. To fix it, I have to reopen BA Personal (or set the Input buffer size to a much much higher value). Same problem exists on two different computers (BA Live for the Internet station computer, and BA Personal for the other computer).
I’m happy to use BA Live the way it is, as there’s no difference in audio between VAC 3.12 & 4.08 is there (no soundcard being used…all digital)?
But with BA Personal, it can be a little annoying.Anyway, I don’t know if the cause of my problem is the same as buffalos. If not, it could be off topic (in my case it’s more of a stuttering sound than crackling).
lpy7MemberHaha thanks, just got your email. Yeah just woke up and checked the forum, and bought 🙂
I know it’s only beta, but I’m gonna buy it eventually anyway, and the currency conversion is reasonable atm, so I thought I may as well do it now.
Enjoy your well deserved holiday…a break from the music, and the sound of birds chirping and a waterfall in the background instead maybe hehe.
lpy7Memberoh wow, I picked the perfect time to check the forum. Is it possible to buy right now?
lpy7MemberI think I noticed the same thing in Breakaway Personal (and BPP). I recorded 4 short demos…volume change is at 15 seconds.
1 – Original recording.
http://rapidshare.com/files/174204079/1_ori.mp32 – Volume Logic.
Not bad, quite smooth.
http://rapidshare.com/files/174204080/2_vl.mp33 – Breakaway Personal (Reference Heavy NR, Speed = 50)
Noticeable jump (booming sound) for about half a second before it settles.
http://rapidshare.com/files/174204081/3_bp_50.mp34 – Breakaway Personal (Reference Heavy NR, Speed = 80)
Less noticeable jump, but squashier audio.
http://rapidshare.com/files/174204082/4_bp_80.mp3Of course, the audio with Volume Logic is no comparison to Breakaway’s, but its AGC is definitely smooth. Is this what you mean?
lpy7Memberhehe cool… it’s no major issue. Reading up on it, it seems itunes and winamp have the same problem too, so it looks like a common thing for Vista.
lpy7MemberInteresting. Tried that Minimise bug on mine but it didn’t crash.
lpy7MemberHI Leif,
Just a question when it comes to newer versions…how will the stream be affected when a newer version is being installed? Will it just be a minor interruption such as a few seconds of silence while it’s installed?
Thanks
lpy7MemberHey Leif,
Yeah understandable, although 17khz sould still be no good for engineers. The encoder I’m using by default has a lowpass of 17KHz @ 128k, making the transition band 16538 – 17071, which I know is still not a big difference, but my ears can hear it. And doing a quick test, I think I can hear up to around 17.5k as well.
I know it is picky, but if we weren’t picky about these little things, Breakaway wouldn’t be as good a product as it has turned out to be 🙂
But anyway, that’s enough encoder talk for me 🙂
lpy7MemberSeeing as it can be used for three things, FM, Web, and AM, I thought of Breakaway Tricaster… although that word’s already being used, so I don’t know if you can use it too, or if it sounds good.
lpy7MemberBreakaway Web sounds like it should be good. I’ll wait and see how that works. Personally, I’m more concerned about the audio being clean and consistent than being the loudest. I’ve heard many European stations (web & FM radio streams) and they have the audio cranked up to point of your ears being ready to burst. The treble is so compressed that it sounds like continuous static and the mids and bass are there somewhere when they’re not getting drowned out. A bit like the Amsterdam preset, minus the static of course 🙂
lpy7MemberSorry JesseG, I probably should’ve stated that I’m not running BreakawayFM, I was curious as to what Leif thought of that analysis. If anything, I would rather a 17khz low-pass, as the encoder I’m using seems to be quite different from most used.
I’ve noticed most 128k streams/encoders are limited to around 15.4khz, and some reaching around 16khz. However, the one I’m using does well right up to 16khz and then has peaks up to 17khz, whilst still sounding very clean, which I think is very good for 128k.
I like BreakawayFM, but I’m not sure that I’d be entirely happy with it just yet. It would be good if the Pre-emphasis had an additional 0us setting, even if just for testing purposes, and maybe a couple of additional bandwidth options such as 16.5khz and 17khz, which although may be too high for FM, would still be fine for web streaming. Or am I being too picky?
lpy7MemberThanks for the info Leif, very useful.
I have a question about my 128k stream:
As you can see, it rolls off around 16KHz, but bit and pieces of treble get through up until around 17KHz. The stream isn’t clipping or distorting, so is that normal treble above 16KHz or some sort of distortion (at 320k mp3 the result is sometimes similar but reaches up to 20KHz instead of 17KHz) ?
Thanks.
lpy7MemberI’m thinking the same question for the Internet stream. I purchased BA personal for general listening, and it’s excellent. I defiantly need an upgrade from volume logic for the stream, and BA FM would be great for webcasting, but I’m just waiting for the BA Web release to do a comparison and then decide what I’ll buy. Either way, I’ve yet to find better.
