Just an update, just noticed Virtual Audio Cable 4.64 has been released and appears to have fixed all problems mentioned in the first post. So if you're using Windows 10 2004 (or wanting to) and having problems with 4.15-4.62, you'll need 4.64.
lpy7MemberI agree, things could change between now and the final version. But for anyone who relies heavily on virtual cables, it's more or less a notice to just be cautious before you jump to 2004, just in case it's still broken.
lpy7Member
The possibility from a technical standpoint depends on how Android opens up its audio engine. I’ve honestly never look at that much, other the oogling a few phones. I’m guessing it’s a full ALSA, so that shouldn’t be a problem – from a technical standpoint.
There are other concerns of course, like if it’s even worth it to make the product or not. Of course if I had an Android phone, I would want Breakaway on it!!! But it’s not that simple.
OSX on Intel is the only other platform that the full upcoming Breakaway framework will be available for, from what I understand. 8)
With the growth of Android this year and the number of people downloading music player apps trying to get a better sound, I believe Breakaway would sell very well. Of course, it would have to be technically possible, as you said, and then Leif would have to find the time to create the app, if he believes it’s plausible to do so. If he ever does, I’ll be one of the first to buy it 🙂lpy7MemberI think I’ve seen some bots post what looks like an innocent post which is then later edited to include spam. Probably best to lock the topic if that’s the case with this.
lpy7MemberHey Leif, version .90.96 is officially stable on my machine 🙂
Been running non-stop since you released it and no glitches or freezes. Not sure what happened with a couple of previous versions I tried, but this one certainly passes the test. Nice job.
lpy7MemberBeen running v0.90.96 for a couple of days now and it’s all good. Woohoo, I can keep up with the latest version again.
I think it might be time to update the download page.

It’s starting to feel like it’s time to update the main download page. What do you think?///Leif
I’m hoping so. I’d love to be able to keep up-to-date with the current version, but I’m still on v0.90.82 (which has never frozen), as the newer versions would randomly freeze, for some unknown reason. I’m not 100% confident v0.90.96 will work properly on this PC, but I’ll give it a go and see if it lasts a few days without the audio freezing.Cheers

As far as settings go, power is at 35. Speed is set to 70, and the reason behind this is that the attack is not solid without it being this fast. The downside is that the release is way too fast, and Leif is aware of this issue. Because of this, he is considering separate attack and release sliders. Range is at 60, but that setting is not really relevant to this conversation if you are maintaining solid input levels to begin with.

I’ve noticed too that turning up the Speed does improve the attack (the bass can sometimes get BA by surprise when it’s not turned up high, for example), but it also seems to speed up the release, which can give a bit of a muddy/processed sound. If the release could be adjusted to not be as fast, I think that’d be about as good as it gets i.e. Leif has done an excellent job with the overall processing.
lpy7MemberX-Hosted said what I was going to. SimpleCast is good. Doesn’t crash, sounds great with LAME 3.96 ACM, and very low CPU usage.
lpy7MemberThanks Leif, you’re probably right. With the new version I think I’m hearing the occasional crackle; Kernel Streaming just doesn’t wanna work properly on that computer for some reason. I have the buffers and everything cranked up too. Guess it’s back to 3.12 with the 49.7 day bug, which isn’t too bad.. it could be worse. At least I know how long I have before it crashes 🙂 Thanks anyway.
Edit: BA Live froze 😕 … I knew i shoulda stuck with 0.90.82. Hopefully it will go back to normal when I go back.
lpy7MemberHmmm seems I’m not the only one: http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&q=49.7+ … aabfa6a492
Although, it seems to affect Windows 95/98 machines, but I’m using XP 😕
lpy7MemberHey Leif, still using Breakaway Live v0.90.82, and it works fine – but I’m wondering what this bug could be, and if it’s worth upgrading to the current version…
I’ve discovered there’s a bug that basically stops everything from working after 49.7 days (1193 hours). I’m using VAC 3.12 (because I’ve found it to be more stable) instead of the Breakaway Pipeline, so I think that’s the cause of it. Rebooting every 49.7 days isn’t a big deal, but I’m wondering what you think of this bug.
Cheers.
lpy7MemberHey Leif,
This is similar to what I mentioned a while ago about Volume Logic (sorry to mention that again 😛) being able to handle the bass excellent but BBP/BA Live being slightly different.
Basically, find a part of a song with no bass for around 10-15 seconds. When the bass kicks in, it will be loud (and possibly distorted-sounding) until the AGC settles.
The only workaround I’ve found is to increase the Speed control. It does it on virtually any preset, although Reference is fine with Speed on 50 until you start increasing the Bass Boost to 10+.
Plutonium does it with the default settings unless you increase the Speed to around 60 and/or turn down the Bass Boost slightly.
As an aside, I’ve been able to pick a few streams that use Breakaway simply by hearing the effect it has on the bass.
Hope that helps.
lpy7MemberJust an update… been running BA Live .82 for 46 days since last reboot, not a glitch as yet 🙂
lpy7MemberWell I can say that after the reformat, .82 is working fine now. I guess I may never know what caused it to drop the audio altogether, but this version seems stable enough on my machine.
I can only imagine the headache it must be for Leif when it works on some and not others, and sometimes works on others but not some, and maybe vice versa….ouch that hurts the brain 🙂
