Just wanted to pass along an issue I managed to solve, and I don’t think I posted it here:
I was (and still am) using Breakaway Pipeline to feed Edcast standalone. I was re-comissioning a computer that was used for streaming and happened to notice that there was a 13 gig file in the Edcast directory!
On the other Edcast computer I found the same anomaly. Here’s what was happening, and Breakaway may not have anything to do with it…but something having to do with pipeline was causing Edcast to switch inputs automatically and rather quickly…and a logfile was keeping track of it all.
I read support on the issue and discovered that making the logfile read only was the trick that fixed it…it didn’t cause an issue…but it sure was going to, eventually!
Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast!
January 7, 2010 at 1:25 am #9662celarMemberJanuary 7, 2010 at 3:02 am #9663BokiMemberlool .. i just check my stream PC (because i use standalone EdCast in same way as you) and i have 9.5GB log file too – edcaststandalone.log. ANd edcaststandalone_1.log 106MB 😯
i’m Go to find out what is goin’on…Edit:
Found it !!
For edcaststandalone_1 put Log level to 0For edcaststandalone.log …
i use VAC Actualy, but should work for B-Pipeline too
1. Make sure to "volume control" is disabled in Control Panel for B-pipeline / VAC
2. Go to recording control For that pipe (capture) and MUTE ALL!
3. Restart EdCast and delete edcaststandalone.log
edcaststandalone.log will appear again and log only connecting and reconnecting …
01/07/10 04:17:55 Info(MainWindow.cpp:690): AutoConnecting in 5 seconds
01/07/10 04:18:00 Info(MainWindow.cpp:690):
..That’s it.
This also fix problem with EdCast shutdown when VAC or B-Pipe is used!January 7, 2010 at 10:52 am #9664AnonymousGuest+1 for Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast! Leifcast!
😉January 7, 2010 at 11:07 am #9665LeifKeymasterI’d love to release it. Would certainly cut down on the time i have to spend supporting edcast! Rest assured, the day I solve the licensing problem is the day I’ll release it.

January 7, 2010 at 11:42 am #9666cyberneticorganismMemberSo… that is somewhere around 2030? 😆 I have no problems if your release without the encoders, maybe it’s also an option to ask Ed how he get the licenses…
January 7, 2010 at 11:44 am #9667LeifKeymasterEdcast doesn’t contain any encoders, it uses encoders already installed in the system, or lets you download them yourself. This is one of the many reasons why it’s so unstable, so making a Leifcast version without encoders isn’t an option, as it would defeat the purpose. 🙁

January 7, 2010 at 11:50 am #9668cyberneticorganismMemberHmm but with the installation there are 2 encoders included (you can choose to install them or not)… but that’s a shame then.
January 9, 2010 at 11:15 am #9669X-HostedMemberIs it realy the external encoders that make it instable? I’m using simplecast with the Windows Legacy MP3 (ACM Codec) and installed the LAME ACM Codec into my system. Not using any built in codecs in simplecast. But it never crashed.
^ Might this be an idea for leifcast too?
Edcast on the otherside is the most buggy piece of *&^$# i ever worked with 😯 I dont understand why software that has been released about ages ago can be still so buggy. Why do you recommend to use edcast with BA anyway Leif? It only causes headaches 😉

Maybe not, but it sure makes it a pain in the ass to set up and configure
Why do you recommend to use edcast with BA anyway Leif?
Because it’s the one shoutcast-compliant encoder (other than Leifcast) that lets you choose a really good codec. I wholeheartedly agree that it’s a buggy piece of something, though.

January 9, 2010 at 5:37 pm #9671lpy7MemberX-Hosted said what I was going to. SimpleCast is good. Doesn’t crash, sounds great with LAME 3.96 ACM, and very low CPU usage.
January 10, 2010 at 4:23 pm #9672sgeirkMemberI don’t think simplecast supports AACplus, and I had a bad relationship with Spacial’s SOS4 software.
We have been thinking about demo’ing SAM broadcaster so we can take song requests via the internet on an internet stream we have, I’m more than reluctant.
January 10, 2010 at 10:08 pm #9673GeorgeMemberSOS4 supports AAC+ v1 & V2.
http://support.spacialaudio.com/wiki/SOS_Changelog
Simplecast…not yet.Running SOS4 on my server at demo mode last 2 weeks seems to be very stable.
I use it to create one wma stream@128,one mp3@128 and 2 AAC’ streams @28 & 40kbps
all of them from the same source….winamp 😉The only problem, as we know, AAC need to be -2db from the other streams but there
is no way to adjust via SOS4 😥January 11, 2010 at 8:14 pm #9674JesseGMemberWith Ando Media’s acquisition of Spatial Audio, I’m really doubting there’s going to be another update to EdCast. Certainly not the complete rebuild it needs. It would certainly be a conflict of interest between Ed (who is a VP at Ando), and Spacial’s business. Don’tcha know.

I didnt know that! 😯 That may be why SAM 5 is taking sooooooo long…
