Hi,
It's like I said, it's all down to taste and to some degree, suitability for your individual type of program material.
Personally, I prefer the Plutonium preset, to my ears, it's the one which does not colour the music and the output seems to have the same EQ as the input. It's also nice and loud and you can choose to have it on an aggressive setting or back it off to have more respect for the dynamics of the music.

If you are looking for a soundcard to use the MPX output of BBP, if you only have a small amount to spare then look on auction sites for an Audigy 2ZS or and Audigy 4 (Not SE 4), these can often be picked up for less than £20 and will do the job very nicely. If you have a bit more to spend, and EMU 0404 (PCI or PCIe) are a good choice, also for a bit more, the ESI Maya44 or Juli@ cards are an excellent choice. The ultimate card is the Marian Trace Alpha but this is very expensive and also very hard to find.
I have done scope tests on dozens of different cards and also onboard codecs built onto motherboards.
Don't just buy any 192Khz soundcard, it does not guarantee it to be suitable for BBP and the same with onboards, some are excellent, some are not so good and some are dreadful, even if using the same chipset, the design of the mainboard itself can have a major effect on the performance of the output sometimes good, sometimes bad. I tend not to rely on onboards any more.

DOES  ANY 1  NO THE    BEST SETTINGS FOR  EUROPEAN  SET UP  FOR FM BROADCAST ON  BBP???

PLEASE  NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS
Hi,

"best settings" is very much a matter of taste, and there is no one-fits-all solution for all European countries.
Some countries require the output to conform to ITU-R SM.1268-1 AKA Stokke mask limits and some do not.
It is not a bad idea to use the Stokke mask in any case, even if not a requirement as in my opinion, it has a positive effect on the bass sound.
In Europe the main technical requirements are the use of 50us Pre-emphasis and deviation not exceeding +/- 75 Khz and where required, the use of the Stokke mask limiter. There are more detailed parameters and these should be available on the website of the regulator in your territory.

Defective? What is defective about it? Mine works perfectly.

Look back through the forum, there is a very well documented problem with the version of the Breakaway Pipeline (VAC) contained in version .95 which has plagued many people over the past four years.
As is always the case with PCs some problems occur on some configurations and not with others but a significant amount of people reported problems (and still do) but despite VAC having many new versions since, a working fix to the pipeline problem was never implemented.
I have installed BBP on dozens of machines over the last 5-6 years, some work flawlessly, some give issues, some are a living nightmare.

It's a work in progress, but it is still coming.

Hi Jesse, are you able to give even a very rough indication as to when the new version will be coming?
In seven days time, the latest (and defective) version will be four years old..

Hi,
The PC I used for this demo is Windows XP but this makes no difference to what you need to do.
Also this is not an active broadcast PC, I am using a very old unregistered demo version of BPP on this machine just for this demo so some of the menu layout in Breakaway might be slightly different from the version you are using.

You'll need to be into the menu where you can see your RDS level and Gain setting in Breakaway.

OK, so first of all, click 'setup' on your Airomate and select the RDS tab. Set the RDS level to 8% Don't worry if this seems wrong for now, you find later this is correct. At this stage the RDS level (If Breakaway RDS gain is set to 0.00dB) will match Airomate output at 8%, this is fine for now. If RDS gain is not 0.00dB, set it to this now. Message will show for now 'Pilot Absent'.
Click 'Save settings'

Now in Airomate, move to the Synchronization tab which is under Audio and set the first box to Enable, then set the level to 10%. This is not critical but 10% works just fine. This sync tone does not get sent through your audio/mpx chain, it is just used as a reference to synchronize to.
It should not matter if you have the sync output channel set to 1 or 2 but if one does not work, try the other. As long as you have the pipeline channel setting set to 2(mix) on the Breakaway I/O settings, this should work on either.
Click 'Save Settings'.

The sync should now work and look like the pic below. You should also notice that within a few seconds, the RDS level decreases to our target level of 4%.

Just to demonstrate why this is advantageous, I have photographed a scope trace with the sync on and the sync off.
It's important to remember that the RDS and Stereo are both working fine in both cases but it will be using a bit less spectrum when in sync, you will see why.

Firstly, sync on.

As you can see, the larger wave and the smaller wave are following each other along nicely, its nice and neat and tight. This is the 19khz wave and the 57khz wave synced together.

Now I will show you the result when sync is turned off..

As you can see now, it's a mess and the scope is much more full, this is your spectrum being wasted. The waves are not in sync and it's not efficient. Still working but using more precious Khz modulation than when in sync.

Hope this helps,

Yorkie98.

Hi Guys,
The RDS pilot being referred to here is the 19Khz sync pilot. You obviously don't have this turned on in Airomate. If you can, you should. If you need help doing this, I'll guide you through it.
RDS will work without this but it will work better if it's on.

Disable all effects, eq, etc in the creative control panel. The samplerate selection part is not relevant, leave it at 96, that's fine. This card does work I have used it before and it's a pretty nice output too.

Just recieved new probes for the tds340 and have calibrated audio output, does this look ok to you guys?
That quicksweep does not look good, it looks as if there might be some filtering on the output of the dac. Some soundcards do exhibit this and are not really suitable.
Your fastsweep should look like this:

If you do a slow sweep, the scope should be filled to the same level thru the whole sweep like this:

If it dips or reduces then jumps up again during the sweep, there is a problem with the frequency response of the card, possibly caused by filtering on the dac. It might dip a tiny bit right at the end of the sweep, this can be ironed out with the peq adjustment but if you get 2 or 3 dips representative of the gaps in your fastsweep, then I would suggest you look for another sound card.

I guess when put like that Jesse, it’s true, even though that’s not what I was getting at..

You know very well, probably more than anybody that I am a long establised commercial user and enthusiast for this program and that I have been awaiting the new version (let alone the fix to the well documented pipeline problem) for a very long time but there does come a time when a reluctant sinking acceptance creeps in that this is unlikely to happen.

I REALLY hope I’m wrong and that the new version is imminent but I gave up holding my breath for it a very long time ago.
There are rumors about a new breakaway version comming out by the end of 2012 the first quarth of 2013.
The new version would have more control parameters, like atack and release times per band.

can anyone confirm this ? (I think Leif can clearout this issue)

Thanks…Jeroen.
From where are you hearing this rumour?

"Rumoured" update to BBP has been awaited for 2 1/2 years, most now accept that development has stopped.

Hi,

It sounds to me as if you have both the source audio and the processed audio both coming out of the soundcard. You need to mute the line input on the playback but have it unmuted on the recording side. There may also be an advanced option that says "record without monitoring" on the Line input (recording) if there is, select this.

HTH..

PCM streams would be no problem for me here in UK, high bitrate streams with other codecs no problem.

My line speed here is 80Mbps down and 20Mbps up.

If you need someone to assist with sending audio out to test the software, PM me, I can spare a couple of Mbps without a problem.

I’m a broadcast engineer so I know my stuff.

Leif’s Audio resampler/repeater is a wonderful tool for this purpose, You can pick up audio from any point in the chain and route it to wherever you want it to go, just set up an extra pipeline and there is your input to BL.
