    JesseG,

Success!  I had my Pipelines set up correctly going into BA.  But I wasn't able to get audio out of Station Playlist to go INTO the pipelines.  I just found the settings to send audio to Pipelines 1, 2 and 3.  It's working great!

    Now the fun begins…

Thank you so much for your responses and suggestions.  They were very helpful as I went through the process.

    Jesse,

Thanks for your quick response.  Let me get back to you on your questions but I think what I'm hearing is:  I need three sound cards.  One for each station.  With the previous version of Breakaway, I used a .dll file that I dropped into SPL's folders.  The audio wasn't passing through a sound card.

If this is the case, do you any recommendations for reasonably priced sound cards?

And I just realized my motherboard doesn't have room for that many sound cards.  Do external sound cards work?

After a couple of more days working on this, I'm still having some trouble.

    I'm running:

Station Playlist running 3 streaming stations

    Breakaway One

    Breakaway Pipeline

I set BA to Kernel.  Used Pipeline 3 as the Input.

The only way I was able to get audio to BA is to make Pipeline 3 the default audio device on Windows 7.  This obviously is not going to work long-term because I have 3 stations but I wanted to try anything to get audio from Station Playlist to BA.  I was able to accomplish this.  I started the BA encoder.  The audio coming out was stuttering and jittery.

So I have a few challenges I'm on which I'm stumped.

    1.  How do I route 3 stations audio from my 3 SPL instances to the 3 cores of BA?

    2.  What am I doing wrong that's making the audio jittery?  I have run the Auto-Configure Block Size.

Several hours later and the two instances of Breakaway Live have been "playing nicely" with Station Playlist Studio and with oddcast.

In case this might help someone else down the road, the first thing I did was stop SPL in BOTH stations and disconnected both instances of oddcast from the web. Then:

    1. I pulled Breakaway Live’s second dps plugin into the second station’s SPL plugin folder.
    2. Configured it in SPL’s output like I did with the first station, just as Dave described in the other thread.
    3. In oddcast, Pipeline 2 is going in, Line 3 going out. (In the first station’s oddcast, Pipeline 1 going in, Line 3 going out).
    4. In Breakaway’s I/O page, I configured the input/output for the two plugins accordingly.

Sure enough, the second Breakaway Live box popped up as "Live 2." For both stations, I started the automation, clicked "connect" in oddcast’s two instances and it was off to the races. Again this is configured with audio going directly to the encoder and out, with no sound card involved.

Next will be buying Breakaway Live’s licenses for two instances (they give discounts for multiple instance purchases).

I’ve listened through computer speakers, earbuds and the ultimate test…through my iPhone, connected to the car stereo with one of those cheap FM transmitters that are about the worst thing you can try to push music through. Even with that, it sounds great. It should be fun playing with the settings.

Dave, thanks again for helping out a newbie. Otherwise, I would still be trying to configure SPL and Breakaway! Hopefully, I’ll be able to pay it forward at some point.

One other thing: I saw this in an earlier thread…if it’s ever feasible to create a Breakaway for iPhones and iPods, I’ll be in (virtual) line at the iTunes store to download!

Again, Dave, thanks for reaching out.

Doing two stations, I’m probably trying to run before I can crawl but I’ve been having fun putting this stuff together. SPL and Breakaway have been two of the best things I’ve run across in a long time.

Yeah, when I try to download another copy of Breakaway Live into a different folder, it gets cranky because it sees it already running. But when I was fumbling around before you helped me out the first time, I somehow got two instances of Breakaway Live on the screen. That was when I had moved all 8 dps plugins to the SPL folder and had two of them checked.

That was for the same station though. Which is why, I stopped at that point and posted here before I got myself into trouble.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

    Dave,

It all worked as you indicated. I was momentarily stumped on the I/O settings but then noticed oddcast was telling me which pipeline was going in (1) and which line was going out (3). After that, all was well.

Thank you again for taking time to help!

    Dave,

Thank you very much for the detailed configuration advice. I can tell you right off the bat, I was doing it incorrectly because I had not shut down SPL. That should have been obvious but it never occurred to me.

When I have the time in the next few days, I’ll try it again, with your directions and let you know how it goes.

    Thank you again!

[quote author=”Joop Krauthausen”][quote author=”earshot”]I’ve read a few posts at the Marian forum and it looks like they may not yet have drivers to support the Windows 7, 64 bit environment. Can anyone shed some light on this? Would it be best to wait on ordering a Marian sound card? Or is there a workaround to this issue?

    Thanks for your thoughts,

I received a reply a couple of days ago from Marian. It gives the same info that I’ve seen elsewhere but it’s great that they got back to me:

thank you for your message and the interest in our products.
It is correct, that the card does not have a 64bit driver yet – it will thus work only in a 32 bit environment. The development of the 64bit version in progress. We expect the driver to be released within the next 3/4 months.
Concerning price and shipment cost our sales department will contact you again.

I’ve emailed both the American dealer and directly to Mairan’s website. I’ll post when I hear something. Meanwhile…

Here’s the post from September 30 at Marian’s forum:

    Dear MARIAN Users,

we agree, the situation of not having 64bit drivers is a very unfortunate one and not at all pleasant. Neither for our customers nor for us. We are very sorry having to announce that the planned release date had to be rescheduled for the first quarter of 2011. Why was this necessary?
The new 64bit driver was planned as a general makeover of the MARIAN driver concept. That was because the changes that had to be applied included fundamental restructuring of the driver making it necessary to rethink it thoroughly. This, admitted, is a project that smaller companies like MARIAN, can not do within a month or two. Especially since other projects came up, the release plan had to be postponed over and over again. What are these other projects? Well, one of the main jobs of a company is keeping itself running. This can only be done with new products. And as much as we like products as e.g. the Marc 8 MIDI (which has been around since 1999!!!) it is sometimes hard to support them over such long time spans. So, currently the resources had also been used to start our new PCIe card series. Because, lets face it, if we don’t sell new products, none of our products will receive any update any more. But, as mentioned in previous posts, WE WILL PUBLISH A 64BIT DRIVER. And it will be a little more than anyone expected. As described above, we a working on a unified driver model – that means, it will be ONE driver for ALL products. Apart from the apparent increase of comfort of the installation process, this is especially interesting for users of several different MARIAN cards, because then it will be possible to use ALL MARIAN SOUNDSYSTEMS with ONE (ASIO) driver. Full clock and Full Start/Stop synchronization ensured! Formerly the multicard operation of different card types was really limited to Windows XP, since the audio structure of windows vista and 7 did not allow for a reliable synchronization of different devices (audio devices). With the new driver, you can use any combination of MARIAN soundsystems perfectly synchronized via the ASIO driver.
Another aspect is, that due to the unified driver design and a common driver source code base, future updates and improvements will be much faster and instantaneously available for all sound systems, at once.

Maybe our faithful customers can accept this preview as a small token and excuse for still having to wait a little more. And maybe they have a little sympathy for a company that also had some trouble in the past caused by the financial and economic crisis – but survived and is currently more active than ever, trying to continue the support that these users expect.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

    The MARIAN Team.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. They’re much appreciated. It seems where computers are concerned, it’s like other things: There are Ford people and Chevy people. Beatles people and Elvis people.

I built a desktop in 2000 and another one 4 years ago that I still use. I’ve used two Dell and two HP laptops. I use an HP desktop at work. I could nitpick each one. But honestly…the biggest problems I’ve ever had with any of them, is the crap I’ve downloaded and neglecting ventilation or cleaning (I’m in Texas in an area with a lot of heat and a lot of DUST).

I finally ordered a new Dell i5 with 8gb RAM and 1.5TB drive. I can expand memory and storage if I need to. Affordable, mid-range. This way, I can afford Breakaway, Station Playlist and…the Marian Trace Alpha! (and Christmas for the girlfriend, food, rent). Next time, I’d like to have one custom built but it’s a start.

Now my worry is the learning curve of going from XP to 7! Meanwhile, I’ll keep reading through new and old threads here to pick up more tips.

BTW, thanks for not slamming me about the "16 meg of RAM" in my first post. Yeah, I’ll add that to a 486 DX100 and a 1200 baud modem!

    Happy Holidays and best regards,

    Michael
