MilkyKeymaster
Thanks for the dump details. I will forward these on.
No idea on the URL, unless it is something to do with the developer of Virtual Audio Cables (Eugene (Evgenii) Muzychenko) which is licensed to BA1 as “Breakaway Pipeline”. Are you using the pipeline as your input to BA1?
BTW, I am using it as the output from my playout software, and therefore the input to Breakaway One, but with no issues. If you are using it, is it the latest version (4.66)?
MilkyKeymasterThank you johnzs180 for your additional input. I am also using the built-in encoder (AAC/192) and reading a txt file for the titles, as well as running a “local” HD core. My laptop is an Asus i7 with Windows 11.
The second machine (a 4 year old Dell i7 laptop) is 50 kilometres away (whatever that is in miles), running a similar configuration, but through a different provider. Neither gives an ounce of grief.Could it be power related? Maybe a noisy or over/under voltage power supply? Although you do say that you have tried it on two different machines, presumably with different power sources. Is your environment particularly electronically “noisy”?
MilkyKeymasterSince the first problem was raised, I have instigated a soak test of as many different combinations of motherboard/RAM/soundcard as I possibly can (with Leif’s support).
So far, not one of these has failed despite running as a service 24/7. I myself have two different branded i7 laptops streaming all day every day, and it never goes wrong.
I’m not trying to duck the issue, just reassure you that we are working on it, but itseems to be very specific to now two different environments, when many thousands of others are using the same service and not experiencing the problem.
Can you please provide specifics of your mainboard, RAM, sound card and any other software that you are running, so we can drill down on what might be causing the problem.
MilkyKeymasterSo, if not USB how are you going to power this device? Are we talking a real PC motherboard with PCIe interface?
MilkyKeymasterIt is a separate chargeable MODULE, which you choose and pay for once you have everything working on the trial version. Note in that video that Leif is also using the trial version, but, in the graphic, you can see the price of each module adding up as he selects them.
If/when you purchase your licence, the final registration key you receive will enable all the modules you select, and disable the rest.
MilkyKeymasterThis download link https://www.claessonedwards.com/download/ will provide the latest in both the program and pipeline. However, passthrough has been a part of BreakawayOne for many earlier iterations, so it baffles me that you can’t see it, even if your version is out of date.
If you pause that video at 1 minute 50 seconds, you can clearly see Leif select Passthrough in “Main Configuration > Audio Processing Cores”.

MilkyKeymasterYes, Passthrough comes with the Trial Version. In fact, the trial is fully functional, but it will inject a “nag voice over” into the stream from time to time until Breakaway One is registered. This enables you to set up a complete end-to-end solution for your needs, and then go back and purchase and license only the cores and components you require.
I suggest that you watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tl8xgSrNg4 where Leif steps through a complete FM setup. You will see near the start where he configures the passthrough.
MilkyKeymasterI’m not familiar with the software you are using, but mine is capable of putting out a formatted string to a specified file and I use that option. In the “core > streaming > overview” section of Breakaway One you can select “Metadata Source: File or URL” from the dropdown box. Then in the field “Location” beneath that box, enter the full path and name of the file e.g. “C:\Title\Metadata,txt”.
That’s it! Each time your software writes a formatted string into the file you specify, BA1 will pick it up and it should appear in your stream player. I use VLC and it works very well.
If it is working, you will see the string (greyed out) in the “Current” box above the selection field.

MilkyKeymasterI haven’t answered because I have no answers. There are countless hundreds of copies of this program running on many different computers and OSs and no-one else is reporting such problems. Obviously it wouldn’t be on the market for so many years if it was so flakey.
I have reached out privately to Leif for assistance, and will report back when I have some suggestions from him.
MilkyKeymasterI am really sorry that you are having this problem, especially when it is demonstrating the same behaviour on several different machines, but I can assure you that BA1 usually is VERY stable. I have to ask the question – is it a licensed version of Breakaway One? The only times that I have heard of such erratic behaviour it has turned out to be a hacked version, which always causes instability.
MilkyKeymasterI’m curious if the problem persists if you run it in foreground (drop it as a service). Is it possible to run Breakaway One, but not as a service in your broadcast environment? It might point us to where the problem is.
Are you using any antivirus software? Can you suspend that for a time?
MilkyKeymasterHi Shaun. Well, knowing of many installations of Breakaway One that have been running 24/7 for very long times, I’m leaning towards an issue with the 18i20 – possibly driver related. It seems to have a “memory leak” or something that builds up over time, eventually collapsing and causing the distortion.
Is it possible in Device Manager to disable/enable the audio device when the distortion is happening? does this reset the issue? If that is the case, I’d be talking to Focusrite about updated drivers.
November 26, 2023 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Is there a problem with the forum preventing to post? (as of Nov. 22, 2023) #17322MilkyKeymasterI’m not sure where the forum server is located, but it is probably the slowest site of any I subscribe to, and I’m in Australia, which possibly exacerbates the situation.
To my knowledge, there have been no reported outages, but maybe they would go to the webmaster anyway.
November 20, 2023 at 11:55 am in reply to: Anyone else having problems with BAE and Bitdefender AV? Can´t run BAE #17314MilkyKeymasterIf the debugger is running in memory, it should show up on Task Manager, either as a service or actual program.
Temporarily kill it off and then see if BAE will run. If it does, it looks like both programs share some common memory. I would write to the Bitdefender people to see if they can suggest a solution.
MilkyKeymasterYou must be running in Trial Mode. When you license the product, the ads go away.
If you have a license, has the MAC address of PC changed. For instance, if you registered using the wifi MAC address, but have now gone to Ethernet, the MAC address will be different and BA1 will revert to Trial Mode until you apply for an updated license.
