Generally, ASIO is considered the best, but it does depend on the implementation of the drivers on a per-device basis. Bad ASIO and good KS implementation for a particular device may bias the result in the opposite way, so it is best to experiment with both. I have a high spec audio device, but the ASIO implementation is very basic, so I don’t use it.

I’m not sure what the W, H R parameters are, so I’ll have to set up an ASIO session and look into it. I assume it has something to do with buffers, so I’d experiment with the number of buffers you have defined in the ASIO setup (as opposed to in the BA1 app). As always, the higher the buffer count, the greater the latency, so experiment until you get the best performance. If you are streaming, latency my not be a problem, but, if you are using ASIO for video audio, the buffer count can make a big difference with lip sync.

I am hosting my own stream, but use the free VLC app as the receiver on both smartphones when travelling and my laptop at home. No problems encountered.

I’m pretty sure that the video uses VPN, because he advocates that for all end-to-end solutions. It IS possible to set it up using something like dyndns as a forwarding agent, but then you will need port forwarding rules in place and that may start the problem all oer again.
As I have said before, I use Team Viewer security to remotely access the BA1 computer, and then run BARemote locally once I’ve logged in.

Thanks for the update. Leif is adamant that Breakaway was never intended to be exposed directly to the Internet. However, he is now aware of the issue and will address it in a subsequent release.

Just download the REAL version and install it. Once you apply the licence, it will become licensed.

I use BAE on everything that goes through my laptop – partly because the normal level from the speakers is not very high but also because of the huge variation in levels between different news items/YT pieces etc.

Simply make the Breakaway Pipeline the default output and then define your speakers as the output from BAE.

There was a huge crash a couple of weeks ago, and they have set up a temporary re-direct. Please be patient as they work to re-establish the web site. If you have major problems, email John at support@claessonedwards.com

That’s great news. Leif has said that he will look into the code around the port assignment to try and make it more robust.

Just be aware that just about every hacker out there knows the default port address for VNC, so I suggest that you change it from the default and switch it regularly.

@johnzs180 Perhaps you could try the same solution as “wgrt” in case you are suffering the same vulnerability.

I have found that you can change the default port address simply by adding the preferred number to the end of the IP address you use to access Breakaway One in the BARemote GUI.

Simply add a colon after the IP, and then the preferred port address. You should then change your firewall and router port forwarding to the new address. For instance 192.168.1.100:8500 will try to open port 8500 instead of the default 8200.

If you are being hacked or DDOS attempts are flooding port 8200, this should move it to a safer port.

EDIT: Leif has contacted me back to say that, whilst BaRemote can connect on any specified port, BreakawayOne only listens on port 8200. You could create a temporary fix by opening BaRemote on (say) port 8300, but forward all traffic on that port back to 8200 in your router. This would work, but, if “chestnost.com” is monitoring that port, the problem will still occur.

He asks why you are exposing BreakawayOne to the internet anyway. In my case, I connect to the BA1 PC using Team Viewer and then use localhost (127.0.0.1) to open the configuration. A more robust approach would be to create a VPN and then have a virtual circuit from your location to your Breakaway PC, free from the Internet.

That’s very interesting. I believe that it is possible to change the default port address of 8200. I’ll check and let you know so that you can change your port forwarding rules.

I can confirm that the website has apparently been hacked. Management is aware of it and is taking steps to resolve it. It may be that they will have to create an entirely new website.

Leif is working with his service provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Thankyou timmywa. I certainly wasn’t aware, as I am in Australia. I’ll try to find out what has happened.

Thanks for the update. This is what makes it so hard to track down – the very inconsistency of it. Keep us posted, and we’ll continue to “dig”.
