I have used an M-Audio 192 card in ASIO for many years now BUT the two differences are that I am using Windows XP 32 bit, and I am using Breakaway DJ. No problems to report at all.

The instance I have seen (and reported) of this sounds very similar. It’s actually on my son’s HP laptop (Intel i5, Win7 32 bit). You say "Breakaway", but not the particular version. His is BA DJ. If he has the box ticked to launch on startup, BADJ launches and appears functional, but the sound is strangled and distorted (even Windows sounds). If he then shuts down BADJ and re-launches it manually, all is good.

As you say, it’s almost as if something else (like the audio layer components) has to get into gear before BA will work. I have almost the exact same scenario on my studio PC, except that it is still running XP Pro, and that works every time, so I suspect it is something to do with the way BADJ (or virtual cables) reacts with the new audio layers of Win 7. Thirty two or sixty four bit doesn’t seem to be a player.

I haven’t tried this, but, if inserting a delay will be a reasonable work-around until Leif can look at the code, try launching BA from a scheduled task, and maybe inserting a pause of a few seconds into the task. For instance, you could create a scheduled task to launch BA using an "On Event" trigger of "Windows Audio/Operational". This might give BA the wait-time it needs.

More information on your system and OS might help. I think I have seen this on a Win 7 32 bit laptop.

If it is line of sight, 5gig or even 2.4gig wifi point-to-point will work, but I’m not sure if the bandwidth is sufficient.

Sorry, I don’t have the Admin rights, nor the knowledge of the software to attempt to intervene. JesseG has indicated that those with the power to act have been informed, so we just need to ride it out.

On what do you base this hypothesis?
Please provide evidence before we tear down the forum.

It probably came with its own bundled "Dash Board" software, which owuld provide the option you seek. The Windows drivers are probably generic.

No, bad argument. You have a Win7 Atom PC and a Sanyo 10 watt per channel amp which "work flawlessly", and you therefore want the software to conform to that? Provide us with some serious specs, and compare that to the minimum requirements.
That’s where this thread REALLY started to become "negative", because I don’t quite like to be ignored 😉. I’m sure that my observations are proven, so why does nobody at least ask about some details…?
I can only speak for myself, by suspect others might be in the same boat.
1) I have Breakaway DJ, which behaves flawlessly in my environment, so I couldn’t be happier (although I am on record as saying I would like some more presets).
2) I am not familiar enough with your product to provide support, if that was what you were seeking.

Here are the facts. "Off the shelf" laptops are built to run office applications and simplistic Windows sounds. No thought is put into optimising audio, video or any other sub-system. They simply provide a range of day-to-day tools. Unless the laptop is a purpose-built gaming machine, which includes specialised audio components and a LOT of effort put into maximising performance, it is almost inevitable that some bus-hogging will occur.

What Joop and radio oude stijl say still holds. An i7 with heaps of RAM but a badly designed motherboard architecture will always be out-performed by a better designed i5 or even i3.

Please keep us posted. We can all learn a little by your experiments, and, if there are areas where you hit a wall, ask here again – someone may already have climbed that same wall.

1) We are all volunteers here. Not all are technical experts.
2) Many of us only have experience of one of the Breakaway products, and it may not be the one you asked about.
3) Many do not even know what RDS means.
4) The developer, who obviously could help you, is currently absent from the forum.
5) May I suggest that, when you enter the forum, you check your attitude at the door? You’ll get a lot more help if you ask concise questions in a concilliatory fashion, and show some temperance if the answers are not to your liking.

Not guilty this time.
JesseG has his name against it, but I don’t have a reason.
