I use OtsAV also, running Breakaway Audio Enhancer with video and don’t have any noticeable latency. I am running in real time priority with KS drivers and buffer sizes of 128 for 4 buffers into 2 channels. Sound-card is and EchoAudio MiaMidi or Denon HC-4500.
It might be a settings issue or a Vista driver issue that is causing you problems. If you have an ASIO capable sound-card I too would recommend Breakaway DJ (link posted above by DJ Buik) as it’s directly geared for low latency DJ use.
Dr.JMemberCan’t wait, Zenith is my favourite preset.
Dr.JMember
Meh, the Z-5500. It’s muddy, it’s anything but accurate, but it’s loud. It depends on your ears really, but i’ve heard it, and i wouldn’t buy one myself.
Any recommendations on a 5.1 SPDIF capable speaker set for under $400?
Dr.JMemberMake sure the "bypass" button in Breakaway isn’t enabled. If it’s the demo, it will start to bypass the audio after the 30 day demo is over, but you can enable it manually for 30 minutes at a time.
Dr.JMemberI don’t use VDJ nor the GigaPort soundcard, but what outputs did you select in VDJ? Are these set as the inputs on Breakaway DJ?
Dr.JMemberI’d say add mic processing and double the price 😉
Dr.JMember
Breakaway Pipeline is Virtual Cable, except that it’s "locked" to Breakaway products in a way that it introduces a loud static noise into the cable if no Breakaway products are running.
However, as soon as any Breakaway product is running, all cables are static-free for all programs that use them. So, if you for example installed Breakaway Live (to get the cables installed), and then make sure to keep Breakaway RTA running (which is completely free), you’ve got free static-free cables. 🙂

Dr.JMemberThis may or may not be related, but when I use an M-Audio Fastrack Pro USB soundcard with my laptop, I will have serious sound issues if I don’t use the EXACT same USB port that I originally installed it on. This might offer an explanation as to why the sound is perfect some days but not others, if not, I guess I’ve only wasted a minute or two of your time.
Good luck with your trouble shooting.
Dr.JMemberFor speakers here’s a couple of sets…
http://reviews.cnet.com/4504-4_7-0.html?id=30602151&id=31115626I own a set of the Klipsch and they sound awesome (though no longer available), but I think the best choice for your needs would be the Logitech Z-5500.
Dr.JMemberThanks Leif, I’ll be purchasing a copy and should have my test system up and running this week. If all is good (and I see no reason why it wouldn’t), I’ll be buying a few more copies. I’ll let you know how I make out.
Dr.JMemberI’ve been testing it and it seems to work great for me too. I think it’s ready for release, that way I can use it in a real setting without the audio advertising.
Dr.JMember
Yeah.. It would be nice to have a Pro version with more channels in the future, but for now I’ll focus on two channels. Gotta start somewhere 🙂.
Besides, do DJs really have audio interfaces that have mic preamps with separate channels, so that the audio could be software-processed before going into the mic input on the mixer?

Maybe I’m an anomaly, but I have a collection of audio cards. Some of them include several EchoAudio Mona soundcards (it’s an older rackmount card that has 4 mic input channels), a Mackie d.4 pro mixer (it has 2 mic channel inputs that route via Firewire to a computer) and a few M-Audio FastTrack Pro cards (they have 2 mic input channels).
I was thinking you might be able to use the same technology as a 5.1 theater system. 2 stereo channels for DJ audio processing and 2 mono channels for mic processing, 6 channels total.
I am going to install the Breakaway DJ as soon as possible, like I’ve said it’s something I’ve been waiting for. Anything more is just gravy.
p.s. I do recall you had a special version running a karaoke system near where you lived. How has it performed since you installed it?
Dr.JMemberJust a thought, how about upping the price to $149 and including 2 mono mic processing channels. It would be great to have that extra functionality for MCs or karaoke stars. Then you could market it as Breakaway DJ/KJ!
Dr.JMemberWow, I can’t wait. I’ve been dying for a processor like this since I first tried BAE.
Dr.JMemberI’ve already responded, noting I have no noticeable latency. I’m not sure what experiences others have.
