Make sure spartacus isn’t on in winamp, either if it’s there, too.
At first, for me, Spartacus ended up in Winamp AND BB. Not good.
I tried spartacus…and bypassed it shortly after hearing it. Didn’t knock my boots off…at least for FM use.
sgeirkMemberHey, give the guy a break…I get the feeling that he’s trying to learn.
It still sounds too processed to me. Either way, aping the sound of an FM broadcast for the internet, is a subjective choice. It’s not something I’d do. But that’s their call. I’m not hearing obvious, in-your-face distortion right off the bat anymore. So, it’s a definite improvement.
sgeirkMemberAre you using a stereo enhancement plugin? Is the mpx region clean? Any xmtr am’ing?
sgeirkMemberAnother improvement! The eq sounds overdone. I hear less bass hole punching than before, but avoid overly eq’ing for the net feed.
sgeirkMemberI think it sounds like it has slightly more dynamics than before. I hear excessive bass hole punching…and lots of midrange dirt that’s not necessary. Back off everything, input, output…I dunno. Breakway didn’t do this to me, even when….well….once, just for grins, I moved all the setting up full-tilt. I did it once, just for giggles. Had to.
sgeirkMemberActually, I think it could be better on FM…particularly if the levels feeding the encoder are way too hot…which is almost what this sounds like. Hard to know…without knowing where the encoder is getting it’s audio.
sgeirkMemberYour stream is very loud. The loudness and distortion makes it sound like a lower bit rate stream…than what it actually is.
Something sounds overdriven. Low and mid distortion. I’m unfamiliar with the music…but it seems to be on both songs I’ve just heard. My two cents from my two ears.

Either way, this program looks like Sound Solution. And while it was novel, for it’s time…ultimately I didn’t think it sounded that great. Worth a listen, I suppose.
sgeirkMemberI can tell you that when it comes time to buy another audio processor…we’re not buying one…we’ll be going THIS route, and we’re a ‘big professional’ radio station.
Stability is not an issue. I truly believe a good PC, running offline from the internet, is about as stable as any other hardware digital audio processor. The best part about BBP? You just need a computer to run it on.
I mean, think about it…if your $13,000 audio box dies (AND THEY DO!!!)…you can count on being without it for how long?!? (while it’s off at the factory) With BBP…you just need your settings, and another computer…and you’re up and running again.
BBP wins, in my book…and latency is a non-issue for us.
I love our Omnia 6, but I think BBP sounds cleaner..and the new plugins are intense. Since we just bought both of our Omnias, it’ll be awhile before we need a new processor. But WE WILL be adding additional streams and an HD2 channel…and again, since latency won’t be an issue, I can tell you what we’ll be using to process the audio, guess! 😀
sgeirkMemberso when can we hear this composite clipping plugin/add-on, etc? I’m excited. 😯
February 6, 2009 at 11:57 pm in reply to: The advantqages and disadvantages of MPX clipping … FM #6531sgeirkMemberhow can that possibly be LEGAL in the USA? WOW!
sgeirkMemberActually, on our main FM airchain, we’re still running analog up to our digital STL on the roof, due to a wiring constraint in our building. To protect the input of the a/d converter, we’re using a compellor running between 6-8db of g/r….set to leveling only and slow…it’s very unobtrusive. I’m pretty picky.
It works well with the setting in my O6exi.
sgeirkMemberYou just sold me, Leif! 🙂
In just about any situation, I’ve experienced superior results by having the SG and processor at the transmitter .
sgeirkMemberI’m with ya. I’m waiting for the full control version, too. Regardless, I bought Breakaway as-is…based upon the sound alone…BB is an amazing product. Based upon the fact it’s running on a windows pc, makes it even cooler, IMHO.
I will eventually build a machine with a Lynx AES input soundcard and use it as a backup processor for my 100kw FM’s backup transmitter site. The delay is a small issue, but if we’re on the backup transmitter, we have bigger problems to worry about.
Meantime, my house sounds like there’s a major market FM transmitter and processor inside of it. 😉
