Hi Leif,
First a small introduction.
I’ve been in the in audio processing since a long time, since the 80’s.
In the early 90’s I developed my own hardware multiband and I have been following the software scene since … well ’95 ’96 somewhere.
We’ve come a long way, and frankly I never want to go back to analogue, except for the memories of the 8100 that is.
I’ve been trying all kinds of things, like I am also a big fan of John Burnill’s and Alessandro Tomassini processors which I believe are the ones that created the first broadcast capable processors or emulators. (whatever you prefer)Now my main question:
I have been playing with the demo and I am impressed. I have yet to connect my meters, scoope etc to my soundcard but that always happens in the last stage. Audible audio test first and then, but not at least important, measurement. But I am missing something here, and that is because I like to play with things, but a processor should be tuneable.
The only things I can do, in the demo, is select between presets and then fidlle a bit with some parameters.
I am missing the software advantage of creating your own sound thru changing attack/release, clipping etc
Are you planning to do such a feature of are the values hardcoded?Luke

Pleasure to hear from you.
You’re missing only one thing — the price tag. 🙂
The other processors you talk about are fully tweakable, but cannot be competitive on the air no matter how you set the many adjustable parameters.
Breakaway, on the other hand, is *very* competitive on the air — in fact it’s easy to demonstrate how it outperforms even the flagship hardware units from our competitors. It’s also easy to adjust — really, the only thing we’ve held back on is the full control.
I plan to release a more advanced version in the future, with full tweakability. Since the extreme-low-cost price slot ($199) is now taken care of, I can focus on more advanced (and more expensive) versions for those who can afford it. Breakaway Broadcast Processor is the entry level version — and yet it’s extremely high performance.
It’s really just a different way of doing things. Usually, the entry level versions compromise algorithm performance — I just chose to go a different route, in the name of clean, punchy, loud and excellent sound. 🙂
Best regards,
///LeifFebruary 1, 2009 at 11:06 pm #6489sgeirkMemberI’m with ya. I’m waiting for the full control version, too. Regardless, I bought Breakaway as-is…based upon the sound alone…BB is an amazing product. Based upon the fact it’s running on a windows pc, makes it even cooler, IMHO.
I will eventually build a machine with a Lynx AES input soundcard and use it as a backup processor for my 100kw FM’s backup transmitter site. The delay is a small issue, but if we’re on the backup transmitter, we have bigger problems to worry about.
Meantime, my house sounds like there’s a major market FM transmitter and processor inside of it. 😉
February 2, 2009 at 12:01 am #6490JesseGMemberHonestly, if you’re going to be I/O with digital audio… RME is THEE way to go. The quality of everything that they do from the support to the drivers and everything in between just can’t be matched by anyone else putting out a digital-audio soundcard. If you want a guaranteed trouble-free & enjoyable experience, no matter what hardware it’s put into, that’s the way to go.
The performance (acceleration, lack of CPU use, jitter correction, range (over 300 feet with wire or optical without a repeater)) is also unmatched by anything else out there.
