it's a pity! money threw out of window :-[

You people crack me up!!  Money thrown out the window?  BBP still works amazingly every single day.  The sound quality still outperforms most everything else out there without going to a full-blown hardware solution for a processor.  Breakaway has been a great value.  Would I like to see updates?  Sure!  But let's be real.  Lief is not going to leave his sweet position with Omnia to go back to designing a low-cost software processor.  Neither would you!!

Enjoy what you have as it still is one of the best processors money can buy.

While I have no problems with BAE, I would still love to see the option to easily change outputs.

How is the progress coming along for a new version of BAE?

You'll have to wait for the next Breakaway products to come out.  It's been a while coming, but for the most part the current products do work great, and are ~bullet proof.  There are more concerns on today's modern systems, than when the current public Breakaway was created, and this is one of them. 🙂

I'm glad to hear that development hasn't stopped on Breakaway.  You are right!  BAE is bulletproof.  Even on Windows 8.1, it works smoothly without fail.  Very happy with the program!!  I would certainly love to see some of these other features be added though.

    Here is the deal, hardcore.

You are absolutely correct….IF….let’s say I’m going to fire up Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, and listen from beginning to end. I disable Breakaway in these rare instances.

But usually, I’m enjoying the weekend in the house or backyard and have a playlist playing on random that ranges from Sam & Dave to Godsmack to Johnny Cash to Katy Perry. As you well know, the newer stuff like Godsmack and Katy Perry has been brick-wall limited in the mastering to be as loud as possible; but the Sam & Dave and Johnny Cash sound like they were mastered at about half the volume. The last thing I want to do is run over to the volume control every time a new song comes on. Breakaway, using the reference preset, evens all of it out to a nice consistent volume without adding a lot of color to the sound. In fact, it’s amazing how transparent Breakaway can be using the reference preset. Now for those that want that super-processed sound, it is available in other presets.

My main system is a Harman Kardon integrated amp from 1986 running a pair of Boston Acoustic speakers. I have owned B&W and Rotel gear in the past. I know and appreciate good sound; and will trade audiophile references with you all day long if you like. But the majority of my listening these days is hanging with the family and/or friends while good music plays on a good system.

So, hardcore, while I agree that Breakaway is inappropriate when doing serious listening on a good system, casual listening is helped immensely by it…and I would recommend it to everybody.

Changing the volume on a specific application is not the issue. I am looking for an easy way to quickly change the OUTPUT of BAE from the internal laptop speakers to the HDMI output. I was hoping for a more direct way to do it from the taskbar volume control (like a right-click menu item) without going in to the main settings on BAE.

I am using V1.20.24 Beta on Win 7 x64. Should I uninstall that version before installing this one? Or can I install on top of the older version. In a different thread about an earlier beta, you recommended to uninstall first.

+1 for Media Monkey. After WMP11 started randomly changing my album art and other details, I made the switch to MM. It was so good, I bought the lifetime license. Haven’t looked back since.

    Hi Leif,

Before tossing out the option of incorporating your processor somehow in dbPoweramp, take a look at the software. It features a very simple UI, but is extremely powerful. Many broadcast and studio professionals use it to convert their files from one format to another. Nothing else touches it for the price. Spoon, the developer, is just as dedicated to dbPoweramp as you are about Breakaway. If you could figure out a way to combine forces….WOW!!

I just ran the Breakaway Config program on my XP desktop. I had to exit Breakaway Personal to make the change; then restart it. But my Siglos karaoke program now works perfectly with the fade-outs. Awseome!!!

I just checked my laptop running Vista again…and sure enough, the volume control on Winamp does work while running thru Breakaway Personal. I am still running the latest normal version of Breakaway, not the beta. Perhaps that is why…

The only reason I would like to have individual volume controls on my XP machine is because of my Siglos karaoke program. Breakaway does a great job of equalizing the levels of the various karaoke tracks. If I am in the middle of a song and want to skip to the next song, Siglos will perform a nice fade out of the current song before starting the next. But the fade out feature does not work when running thru Breakaway. After clicking the skip button, Siglos will continue to play for about five more seconds and then abruptly stop the current song and start the next.

I fully understand your reasoning for wanting to disable the volume controls in the individual software. I just wanted you to understand why I would like the option of having that access turned on. I also realize that my case is very unique and don’t really expect a change to accomodate this crazy request. 8)

I also work in radio as a production manager for six radio stations. I love listening to high-end audio systems too. Most say I have "the ears". Haha! I am amazed at how good your product sounds without destroying the integrity of the music. I have purchased two licenses just for myself. I ususally use the Reference Settings preset. Great job!!

    Possibly related to this topic…

The volume control for things like Winamp do not work on my desktop computer with XP Pro SP3, and a M-Audio 24/96 sound card. I have Breakaway set for KS for both input and output. I tried some of the various in/out settings and nothing made a difference.

On my laptop with a Realtek HD on-board sound card running Vista 32 SP1, the volume control on Winamp does work.

Any ideas as to how to get my volume controls working on my desktop XP machine?
