1.20.12 has a lot of milage, at least then we can rule out a bug.

If you’re playing a low bitrate file, and apply too heavy processing, it could possibly sound like it’s under water. Could you try the "Reference Settings" preset, and also set all the sliders to the middle position?

Hi Teresa!

Strange. Don’t worry, I’ll get to the bottom of it.

Please check in the ABOUT box, which version are you using?

Best regards,
Is the latest instruction for upgrade installation to install over the current BA Live install, or to uninstall older version and then install the upgrade?
Install over the current install. Sorry for the confusion.
Just demoing Live .79 on my p4 3ghz ht system running xp pro with 3gb ram. Creative audigy 2zs pci. When I’m just listening and tweaking with the controls, at some random intervals the meters and scope freeze and I can’t adjust controls for a few seconds. The audio continues and is being processed just fine, the interface just freezes. I’ve not had any previous BA installs, other than RTA.

I watch the cpu util % and it seems to stay normal during this pause. Is this a function of the demo limitation? What can I look at?

Thanks.
I’ve had a couple of other reports of this, but I have never been able to reproduce it on any of the multitude of systems I’ve tried it on. It’s a bug, not a demo limitation. Hopefully I’ll be able to reproduce it and track it down some day — thankfully it’s not affecting the audio. *phew*

In Breakaway Broadcast, the Final Limiter threshold is raised a few dB to lift it out of the way. The audio signal is then sent to the FM back-end, where pre-emphasis and clipping takes place.

I have found that applying pre-emphasis before multiband compression (in order to dynamically vary the amount of pre-emphasis), while an effective way to keep from overloading a primitive back-end clipper, has some serious fidelity drawbacks. With Breakaway’s FM back-end this wasn’t an issue, so I add pre-emphasis after the multiband processing, thus pre-emphasis is the constant curve it’s supposed to be, regardless of program-material. Thus, it matches the de-emphasis in receivers, which is also constant regardless of program material.

All this will be shown in the BBP block diagram, which I haven’t made yet. 🙂

..and I did indeed respond to Matt in e-mail already! Waiting for a response back from him.

For the record, I do prefer the forum over e-mail, since the communication can then benefit everyone. 🙂

Indeed!

I think this is a perfect example of the preset names being only suggestions. If it sounds good, go for it! 🙂

Awesome! Glad it worked out reasonably. I’ll try to think of a better long-term solution.

You’re absolutely right. I just tried it myself in a Win2003 fresh install, didn’t work at all.

I did get it to work though, and I updated the instructions in the main thread. Here’s the new instructions:

Copy the following files from Winamp to Breakaway’s folder:

nscrt.dll
bass.dll
libfaac.dll
libflac.dll
pthreadvse.dll
ogg.dll
vorbis.dll

That did it for me.

Here’s the files in my BreakawayBroadcast folder:

New version – 0.62

New feature: Adjustable RTA target level! This should make it a lot easier to calibrate two speakers separately and still end up at the same relative gain. 🙂

Yes! BAE and BA Live both work fine on Atom processors.

Have you tried using the creative app you used to change the volume before, to change the volume of individual speakers?

Breakaway plays a stereo stream to the sound card much like your other audio apps do, so I would think it should be able to work the same way.

If it doesn’t, one thing to try is to look at the Settings, and select DS instead of KS for Output Interface. This way Breakaway will talk to the card *exactly* like other apps did before, and all the volume controls should work the same way.

I count them as the same preset, that’s why i put NR in parenthesis.

PowerDVD 6, in Windows XP. I suppose I’m a bit behind the times 🙂.

But man, if PowerDVD 9 is really bypassing the pipeline, and playing directly into the sound card, that’s a big problem — there’s not a lot that can be done about it.. What happens if you play a regular media file in PDVD 9?
