    Hi to all,

I’m new to BAE to please forgive in advance if this is a daft question.

I’m just feeling my way with BAE and I must say that so far I’m very impressed indeed.
However, I have an issue with the volume of individual speakers which, thus far, I’ve been unable to solve.

I have a Creative X-Fi Extreme Audio sound card with pretty decent Logitech 5.1 speakers.

Prior to installing and configuring BAE, I had the volume of all speakers tweaked to my liking via the Creative software.
Now, with BAE installed and configured, I seem to have lost all previous volume settings and can find no way to recover them other than disabling BAE.
I realise, of course, that BAE does not support 5.1 but, with BAE set to Output > Channels > 6 (all), I was thinking that I’d still have some manner of volume control.

So, is there any way to retain or regain speaker-specific volume control whilst using BAE?

Or have I just demonstrated a conceptual error of epic proportions? 😕 😉

    Help and/or advice most welcome.

    My thanks in anticipation.

Have you tried using the creative app you used to change the volume before, to change the volume of individual speakers?

Breakaway plays a stereo stream to the sound card much like your other audio apps do, so I would think it should be able to work the same way.

If it doesn’t, one thing to try is to look at the Settings, and select DS instead of KS for Output Interface. This way Breakaway will talk to the card *exactly* like other apps did before, and all the volume controls should work the same way.

    Best,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yep, but with BAE enabled, the creative app throws a wobbly saying that the selected audio device (BAE) is unsupported.
Similarly, going at the problem via XP’s Control Panel doesn’t help because, with BAE enabled, it only offers me Left and Right volume adjustments. If I manually select default audio device as my soundcard, the creative app works as it should and XP’s Control Panel offers me individual volume adjustments for all six speakers.

Not being able to easily access the individual speaker settings (without re-setting default audio device) isn’t a major problem in itself, Leif, the problem is that with BAE enabled all previous volume settings were ignored.

That solved it – well, solved it enough.

With DS selected, all speakers are taking notice of previously selected individual volume settings so that’s the most important problem dealt with. However, I still can’t access individual speaker settings, via Creative app or XP CP, without changing default audio device from BAE to soundcard.

Thanks, Leif, the minor remaining hassle is easily outweighed by the benefits that BAE brings.

    All the best,

Awesome! Glad it worked out reasonably. I’ll try to think of a better long-term solution.

Leif, pal, on my recently updated list of "awesome" things is BAE and, as demonstrated by the level of support you offer, your dedication to the product and your customers.

The speaker volume adjustment thing really is a very, very minor issue.
After all, I mess with tweaking individual speaker volume settings for maybe an hour a year at the most.
However, I listen to music almost all the time I’m on my PC – something like 3000 hours a year – and BAE enhances that experience greatly.

So, OK, you don’t get 100% but 99.97% aint bad – get used to it and move on! 😉 8)

    Thanks again,

    OB
