Oops. Good idea. It actually ended up that way by pure coincidence. The menu tries trying to open itself so that the mouse pointer is in the top left corner of it, but runs out of room in the lower right corner of the screen. I never noticed the problem since I keep the taskbar to the left. 🙂
The safest thing to do would be to make sure the menu opens itself not covering the taskbar at all. I’ll look into it.

LeifKeymasterIt’s a bug in 0.90.93! My apologies. I will have a fix within days.

LeifKeymasterInteresting situation. I’d hate to drive you towards using a cracked version when you’ve actually done the right thing and paid for it 🙂.
I think I have a solution. I’ll make an ini-file key, something like "include_obsolete_presets=1", and if a user sets that key, they’ll get the full list of presets including older ones. The list will get very long, but that way I can bring any old preset back for those who want them.

LeifKeymasterYes 🙂
cheapskate
I told you a free way to do it in my initial response to you. It will allow you to use Breakaway Pipeline with any program for free.

///LeifLeifKeymasterI generally try to leave well enough alone, and not alter presets. However, if there are good enough reasons, I occasionally make changes in the name of improving Breakaway.
In the case of Twente, every pirate I met in Twente said they didn’t like the preset because it squashed the life out of the music they played, and they said they liked Plutonium except the AGC was too fast and brought up vinyl background noise too much. Thus, I designed the new Twente preset, and the result was a lot of happy pirates! I regret that not everyone is happy — in fact, all it takes is one person to not like the change for the statement "everyone is happy" to be untrue, and it seems you are that person. However, I can proudly state that a lot of pirates in Twente are now actually using the Twente preset. If you can tell me what you liked about the old preset and what you don’t like about the new one, perhaps I can make a recommendation (or a new, better preset).
For Rusticity ’83 and Moon’n’Spoon, the reason for removas was simple — they were awful, and had no votes in the preset popularity poll. 🙂
Michi, if you can tell me what part of it you liked, perhaps I can make a recommendation.
Rusticity ’73 will be back by popular demand, though.
Once we do a 1.0 release, I will commit to not removing/replacing any presets, but until then Breakaway is technically still in beta, so trial and error is a natural part of the development process.
Loading presets from files is not available because it’s essentially equal to full control. Full control is not available because leaving it out is the one thing that makes it possible to sell a specialized product so inexpensively, while leaving the door open for more advanced versions in the future.
All this being said, perhaps I can think of a good way to choose the older presets without them cluttering up the meny. I’ll keep it in the back of my head, if I can think of a good way I might do it 🙂.
Best regards,
///LeifLeifKeymasterAbsolutely correct, those red bars going the other way are look-ahead limiters on the output (after the volume control + eq), and they’re there to protect from hard-clipping. The audio comes out of the Breakaway core at 0.0dB, so unless the main volume is below 0, any little eq boost will cause this overload.
The EQ Headroom is a volume control just like the main volume control, but it’s not accessible from the main window. Thus, by turning Volume up all the way, and then turning EQ Headroom down to where you see no limiting (or very little), you can just leave that control where it is, and then adjust volume freely without having to worry about overload!

LeifKeymasterI have to blame the sound card drivers. The thing is, Breakaway constantly monitors the mpx output, and if the sound card stops requesting data, Breakaway reopens it. This is why it’s even possible to unplug an USB sound card when Breakaway is running, and when you plug it back in, audio continues after a few seconds!
So, for this to fail, the sound card drivers must keep requesting data, and then not play it, so that Breakaway has no idea that the audio failed. There is no way to solve this except better drivers or another sound card. I’ve seen EMU 0202 do this as well.
Digigram will never be on my list of recommended cards because of previous bad experiences AND high price. I do recommend ESI Juli@ or Marian Trace Alpha though.

LeifKeymaster
I have just bought a second core (core2)
How did you do that exactly? I said I *will* do an upgrade option, but I haven’t done it yet, so it’s also not for sale in the web store yet. What exactly did you buy?
///Leif
LeifKeymasterOlder registration codes are valid for newer versions too. What happens exactly?
Do you get any kind of error message?
///Leif
LeifKeymasterLeifKeymasterHm.. I watch movies all the time with Breakaway Personal, playing videos in any media player with audio going through the pipeline, and latency has never been an issue for me.
What buffer settings are you using? For me, 441/3 on input and 480/3 on output is acceptable for movies.

January 21, 2010 at 5:25 am in reply to: Breakaway DJ – Device Does Not Support Requested Format #9736LeifKeymasterWhat they’re saying is true, however their graph is inaccurate.
8-bit is 256 times as jagged as 16-bit. Thus, if that graph was accurate, to see the difference between 16 and 24-bits, there would actually have to be a whopping 256 pixels per step on the 8-bit version. 🙂
But, yes — it would make sense to have 24-bit output, if for no other reason than compatibility. I just moved, so all my belongings are in boxes (typing this on my netbook at a coffee shop), but once I get settled in I will make a test app that outputs 24-bit, so that you can see if it helps.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterThe 2nd core of course has a big discount! 🙂
It is not yet possible to upgrade a 1-core license to a 2-core license but I will implement this soon.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterYes! I used to have this very problem as well, also with Breakaway Pipeline, and as far as I’ve seen he has actually solved it in the latest Breakaway Pipeline version. It works great for me now!
As far as I know, he has not released the fix for Virtual Cable.
