    Wow.

Tested for about an hour this evening. Holy shiz.

The rock preset is awesome! Extremely clean, and it handles the dynamics very respectably. Putting it in phase linear mode, I am just blown away. What is great about it is that it doesn’t have all the additional features on-board that are required for terrestrial broadcasting, so it is truly a plug-and-play processor. Even an idiot could set this thing up (hence my success 😉)

Leif, enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

Is it possible that switching from Wave to KS on the input side would have fixed the clicking problem?

Here is my setup and routing…

    Windows XP system
    1 GB of RAM
    Pentium 4 2.8gHz
    M-Audio Delta soundcard

Audio comes from automation computer into processing computer through the M-Audio’s inputs. Routed to Breakaway using Kernel Streaming (was using Wave for this portion until this morning), processed, and then sent back to the M-Audio outputs using Wave streaming. Before I did this, I was getting a steady cluster of clicks and pops every minute or so for about 5 seconds.

Now it seems to have disappeared…sound about right?

    Gotta agree.

    I’m rollin’ with these settings:

    Range: 90
    Power: 22
    Speed: 62
    Bass Boost: -10
    Bass Shape: Normal

Consistent, clear, and LOUD! Perfect for modern rock/alternative stations.

Ok, here is an interesting turn of events…

I saw the New York preset a few weeks ago and went "oh that’s funny…" after I read the description. It looked more like a novelty preset than something truly serious.

    And then I tried it.

With the Power around 20, it still does an enormous amount of gain riding but it doesn’t introduce pumping. The density is pretty consistent from soft-to-loud (seems to eliminate my problem above with the Plutonium preset). Honestly, I would put this sound on the air in a top-10 market and not regret a minute of it.

Leif, does New York have the dual band compressor you were talking about?

    Leif,

I knew you would know what I was talking about!

I followed your advice on lowering the Speed and raising the Power to 50. In the Plutonium preset, there was still a lot of pumping, but the Regulator sounds great in that range. It seems like that preset increases the power and fatness of the audio without doing a whole lot of audible compression, which is perfect.

Looking forward to a rock preset (with, hopefully, a relatively flat EQ!)…

    Leif,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried every method of streaming…Kernel creates the most clicks, and direct and wave cause about the same amount, but less than kernel. Buffers are set as high as possible. I will be reformatting the drive tomorrow to see if that fixes the issue. I’ll write tomorrow to let you know if anything changes.

When do you think Breakaway will be completely Vista ready?

I guess my question is…what is the difference between re-formatting the drive and using the installation that Dell sent? I just got the computer yesterday, so it doesn’t have anything on it besides my radio automation software and Breakaway. Will re-formatting it forego all of the additional Dell crap?

Is there a way to reformat Windows without loading all the extra crap? I know XP like the back of my hand, but close to nothing about Vista.

    Thanks!
