Hello guys,

Can I run BBP and BBP Asio together on one computer?
Couldn’t find the answer in the FAQ from the website.

finally… I installed The Marian Trace Alpha and the ESI maya in a duo core machine with 32bit WIN XP Pro.
Because I’m planning to use this computer, only for soundprocessing.
Would be great if that was possible to run both BBP’s.

Thanks,
Gunther

[BIG EDIT]

After playing the interface for 12 hours, the problems remain, I removed all Motu drivers and the interfaces as well.
No more Motu for me πŸ‘Ώ Shame shame shame.

[END EDIT]

OK

a little update of the situation…
Motu couldn’t help resolve the problem, but I found a solution, thanks to reading a lot of bulletin boards.

The key is to follow these steps.

1) removed all the drivers in the chain, including firewire, radio automatisation and the broadcast processor.

2) Cleaned up the whole register, almost a clean start.

3) First I installed the newest firewire drivers.

5) Installed the latest Motu drivers, just like the owner manual suggested and tested the interface with all kind of sweeps on the intern audio interface, works well but not that great. There is still a crackle in the -60 dbfs zone, and that’s what is the flawless sound you suggested Leif? But I’m not sure it’s the computer or the interface.

6) Installed a new version of Breakaway pipelines (Virtual Audio Cable) and the Broadcast processor as last.

7) Swept all the test tones and sweeps trough the Motu via the Breakaway processor.

I got the stream back online and it sounds not bad, but still looking for a better alternative. I still have a ESI card in the computer with the BBP ASIO to feed the transmitter. I admit it’s a much better card than the firewire rubbish.

Hi Leif,

sent today a e-mail to Motu about the issue, the units are expensive enough to work in any condition.
I will be back with the feedback from them when it arrives.

Thanks,
Gunther

Hi all,

here is an update for the 64-bit drivers… Message is sent to me app. 4 weeks ago from Marian.de.

Dear ****,

thank you for your message.
We are very sorry for the delay in the availability of the 64bit driver.
Currently there is no specific release date planned for the Trace Alpha – it will be decided within the next 2 weeks. Please contact me again and I can give you more precise information.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen | With best regards

Seems I have to sell my trace alpha because of waranty issues. I’m very dissapointed in Marian to be honnest. ESI audio was a lot faster with updates from 64bit drivers. It seems all the trace alpha users aren’t precedence for Marian.

It’s pity you can only build 1 ESI Juli@ card in your system.
I have to search a alternative PCI card.
Just wanted to share this info.

Same here, both Asio and BBP running on Win7 – 64bit, last week I had some problems with updating to SP1 but it wasn’t a breakaway issue, just dumb ass Microsoft updates who are disabled here from now on.
I have a great reason for why you CAN hear it, and it’s not because of the unit itself.

It’s because the Vitalizer is before breakaway, and it’s not a completely program dependent unit. The "excitation" is mainly driven by the actual signal level. Evening this out *does* improve the operation of Vitalizer (or anything effected like it is by varying input levels) greatly.

That’s why in future versions of Breakaway, the plan is to probably drop Winamp support for the plugins before Breakaway, and to definitely support VST plugins *between* the AGC and the multiband.

By the way…………….. the stream sounds great. πŸ™‚ (when it’s available, which it is responding with ICY 401 right now)
Hi Jesse, thx for the clear explanation, it would be great to implement VST plugs into BBP. Looking forward to that feature.
Must say BBP surprises me most of the time in good sense, keep up the good work guys.

Yeah you are right, for some reason the stream workstation decided to go in sleep mode, without it is programmed to do that. Computers, they sometimes has their own will.

Sorry for the off topic chit chat btw

Before the signal (all .WAV) goes into my processing computer it pass an analog Neve 33609 leveler (wich you don’t hear and doesn’t reflect the sound)
Gunther

If you don’t hear it and it doesn’t reflect the sound, WHY do you use it? πŸ˜• πŸ˜• πŸ˜•
The analog leveler is in the chain because we have 3 airchains running here, the first is our ASIO BBP for FM broadcasting, the second is BBP for our stream and the thirth is a full analog Aphex chain for monitoring with 0 latency.

In my opinion the Neve is better than the one in BBP, the unit is just better to tweak.
It’s all about personal choice I guess, but i can assure you, that if I bypass the leveler you wouldn’t hear a single bit. That’s why it is a high end unit.

I’m just a freak I guess πŸ˜†

I can’t post a personal message to you.
I Would like to know which are your BBP settings for ARVFM, because it sounds good !
Hi Guillou,

very strange, I didn’t change the settings for the internal messages and e-mail.
Of course I want to share my airchain and settings.

Before the signal (all .WAV) goes into my processing computer it pass an analog Neve 33609 leveler (wich you don’t hear and doesn’t reflect the sound)
Via breakaway pipeline 1 it goes into VSThost with SPL vitalizer mk2 plugin > and via pipeline2 to breakaway Broadcast the latest version. This is only used for the stream.

Settings:
SPL Vitalizer: Click
Breakaway 1: Click I don’t use the stereo enhancer from BBP and I don’t use the phase scrambler.
Breakaway 2: Click here you see the settings for the plugins in BBP.

Good luck tweaking πŸ™‚
It is 96 kbps yes (data rate). But it is also 88.2 kHz too (sampling rate). They are not the same thing. πŸ˜‰

You probably should be using 44.1kHz if you’re playing music that’s 44/48, since not everyone has soundcards that will play above 48kHz sampling rate, and also the codec isn’t optimized for your source content at all that way. Literally the whole SBR is completely unused.

So you want 96 kbps, 44.1 kHz. πŸ˜‰
Whoops, I didn’t read the post properly it seems 😳
I’m not sure what is wrong, in edcast everything seems to be ok >>> screenshot
Maybe it’s time for a reboot of the system incl the shoutcast server.

thanks guys πŸ™‚
Off Topic: To Gunther: why do you stream your station at 88Khz (sample rate)?
Hmmm very strange indeed, we stream in AAC+ @96Khz normally and the server is saying the same > "Stream is up at 96 kbps"
Maybe CentovaCast was having problems earlier today? I don’t know to be honnest.

Thx for noticing the issue πŸ™‚

Leif mentioned "this summer" when I talked with him last sunday. I need a BL licence besides my BBP, but I’m not sure whether to order now or wait for the new version… Does anybody know if an upgrade will be free?
Leif did promised me that a year ago it would be free, I have both BBP and the ASIO, I think we just have to wait for more details.
Pity it was a little too far to drive to the Processing freak day, I wish I was there Sunday.

I’m using a Symetrix 528e (analog) for my Sure SM7b and for my 2 Rode Broadcasters a TC Goldchannel (digital) the last one is discontinued, but is a great channel-strip.
