On a lark, I tried using Jill FM for about a hour, but I’m back with Rustonium, speed at 40. It has the presence I want but isn’t as fatiguing to my ears as Jill.

December 16, 2011 at 2:34 am in reply to: Suggestions for classic hits/new music hybrid station #12889Don935MemberI’ve tried this since this morning and listened to several hours, and it’s sounding great to me. Thanks for the suggestion, Timmywa. Would you mind listening to the stream for a bit when you have time?
December 15, 2011 at 2:15 am in reply to: Suggestions for classic hits/new music hybrid station #12887Don935MemberI’m aware of that; I’m just wondering, in the board’s opinion, what would be the best starting point.
My music mix covers songs from the early 70’s to the present. It’s mostly pop and rock, but there’s also urban, alternative, triple-A and even the rare country crossover. That’s a lot of recording styles and dynamics are going to vary, especially comparing an older song with the overprocessed mishmash that’s put out today. What I’m looking for is the "happy medium" that will make if not all, most if it, sound good. Plutonium is very, very close, but I’m still not totally happy with it.
December 14, 2011 at 3:04 am in reply to: Suggestions for classic hits/new music hybrid station #12885Don935MemberIf the range is set to 50, what does that translate to as a ratio? Is it the same for each preset? Does a higher range value equal higher compression? I know that’s a lot of questions, but I really don’t know the answers. The more I know, the better I can fine-tune Live for the sound I want.
Don935MemberI’d wondered what that was too. Thanks for the info! 😀
Don935MemberWell, my compliments to you, sgerik. I’ve tried out your presets on my station for the last couple of hours, and it sounds amazing. I think I have a keeper here.
July 16, 2010 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Audio stuttering using Breakaway Live with Station Playlist #11073Don935MemberThe problem seems to be solved. The critical time period passed with no breakup! I believe it might have been a combination of properly setting the sample rate in Live and enlarging the buffer size in SPL. In any case, everything is smooooth now. Thanks, folks.
One more thing…if you folks have a moment, could you check the stream and see how it’s sounding to you? I’m using a tweaked Plutonium and it sounds good to me, but another set of ears is always helpful.

Done. It was anyway; just wanted to be sure. You’ve all been great so far. Thanks for the comments!
July 14, 2010 at 6:00 am in reply to: Audio stuttering using Breakaway Live with Station Playlist #11069Don935MemberWell, then if I’m using Live as the virtual soundcard, it should be unchecked, then?
Ross Levis of SPL says the output sound device controls the speed, which in my case is Live. SPL Studio (the playout software) uses Direct Sound for all audio output. Ross has suggested increasing the output buffer in SPL (it’s currently set at 500 ms), so I’ll at least double that, and take it from there.
July 13, 2010 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Audio stuttering using Breakaway Live with Station Playlist #11067Don935MemberI shall do that. 😀
By the way: if I am not using a sound card at all, should SRC be checked?
July 13, 2010 at 5:31 pm in reply to: Audio stuttering using Breakaway Live with Station Playlist #11063Don935MemberJesseG: Good idea; I’ll ask Ross on the SPL forums and update here when I get an answer.
Timmywa: I switched pipeline 2 to 44100; the edcast encoders are already set there. Thanks.
