I like the idea of built-in streaming for Live as well.
We’d be willing to pay to unlock any options on Live that would give us full control and Leifcast.

In essence instead of having to pay for 3u colocation in a datacenter for an Omnia 9 we’d rather have the software run on our existing server and the money going to Leif instead 🙂 It would be like having an Omnia 9 without having to pay for its electrical consumption and hosting/storage.

Interesting… Instead of lowering the final drive, could one insert a dB attenuator in the chain to reduce the dynamics? Or does BBP bring all levels up no matter what, thus the need for the final drive here?

Wow! Jesse this is truly impressive… lots of fullness and very consistent! 🙂 Wish we could sound like this on our webstream.. though our highest quality is 192k MP3. Congratulations! Is this an upcoming preset or one you made for this one station?

    Isn’t Streams Orban’s platform?

@ Jesse, would it be possible to listen to a couple of different tracks in one file to check the consistency on a cut to cut basis?
@ using plugins before Breakaway… ultimately what i’ve found is that the more refined the sound of Breakaway is to where you want to go… the more that altering the sound before hand gets in the way of the purity of that place in sound.
I agree so much with this, the sound just seems fuller too without all the preceeding plugins… but how does one solid bass? Just by using the bass cut & shape controls?

As is the case for everybody, I am looking forward to get my hands on THE Passive Agressor 🙂

The idea would be to "pre-process" the live signal (to more consistent levels) before it hits Breakaway 🙂

How would you recommend we use it otherwise?

Speaking of DBMax, what settings would you use in front of Breakaway? We have a DBMax stored somewhere but I never took the time to experiment with it, it would make sense to level our input ahead of Breakaway…

    Jesse, Kes11,

Thanks for the help, the version of Breakaway Live that we have running is 0.90.96b with the Rock preset on.

Kes11, I am quite intrigued by the sound you’ve come up with, what do you mean by "EQ Headroom", Peak Ref. Level?

I have been monitoring our sound using a Bose QuietComfort headset, hopefully this doesn’t mess up my perception of things.

I’ll continue working on things and see what I can do re an mp3.

The signal is going straight out of the automation software into Breakaway Live (via the pipelines), there is no EQing or other process.

What I don’t get is why drums are fine (if not a bit low) going into BBP but so "loud" in Breakaway Live?

I am actually in Breakaway Live using the Broadcast mode, I’m not sure I could find the Loudness or Parametric EQ controls in Breakaway Live.

I think I have made some progress in "killing" some headroom by adding some gain (though I am now flirting with clipping!). My settings are the following:

    HPF: 20
    Roll Off =0
    Phase Linear
    Noise Reduction ON

    Plug-ins:

    dsp_gain_6dB.dll
    dsp_PhaseRotator.dll

The drum kicks are still killing our sound however, not leaving any room for the more musical parts. When I dial the Bass controls down (and Bass Shape Up) I am losing any depth in voices and other instruments, while the hard hitting kicks remain. I don’t think we could go online with this as it just creates to much "fatigue".

It has been killing my ears as well 🙁 Do you have any idea what could I be doing wrong?

    Cheers,
You can use the "DeCiSoft_Equalizer" DSP plug in. Install it in the encoder section before Edcast. I use it to fine tune the audo sound of my internet radio station. It would be a better option to control the output of every band that is processed by Breakaway…
Is this DeCiSoft phase linear?

Another question I have been wondering about for a bit, how do you other radio guys make your sound so consitent using Breakaway Broadcast or Live? We have tried tons of Range and Power settings but can not get all songs to kick in at the exact same level. Should we run our feed via some kind of pre-process or is there a plug-in we could insert in our chain? Or will "undo" help us with this?

I’m very hopeful that the new version sorts this problem once and for all an I can finally stand by my endorsements of Breakaway 100%.
With the month of August now under way, has any release date been set for the new BBP? How far apart will the release of BBL be?

    Cheers

    Jesse & Leif,

Thanks for your replies, actually you are quite right, Edcast is indeed acting up us and causing the dsphost.exe to spike from time to time. I shall look forward to Leifcast becoming available on the Omnia site one of these days 🙂
