    Hi Everyone

At the risk of sounding lazy I have found this particular brand.
    ASUS Xonar D1 – Sound card – 24-bit – 192 kHz – 116 dB SNR – 7.1 channel surround – PCI – ASUS AV100 – low profile
With all the knowledge on this forum I thought it may be easier for someone to tell me yes or no.
Although this is not on the list of tested cards, this one comes in first at $153NZ.
Failing that the M Audio Delta Audiophile 192 (PCI) is avaliable for $272NZ.

I’d spend the extra $120 for the "known brand".

For sure even if they were the same price, with the Delta… much more of the cost in creating the card is in the raw audio quality… where as the ASUS is spent largely on licensing & chipset for supporting gaming audio technologies like Creative Labs EAX.

I would rock the ASUS in a gaming rig for sure, but forget it for anything else.

If you can source one in NZ, get a Trace Marian Alpha, this is the very best card to use with breakaway, a distant second best would be either and ESI Juli@ or ESI Maya44PCI, the M-audio card often needs a hardware mod to work properly which invalidates your warranty and can be risky. There was a thread about the Asus card some time ago and the conclusions were not great.

    Hope this helps,

    Yorkie.
