So, here’s my setup. I’ve got a Pc with an integrated AC97 card, using an S/PDIF connection to a Yamaha AV440RDS Receiver and tuner. I’ve connected two AIWA 55W 6ohm impedance speakers, and a subwoofer for that extra bass kick. Now I’ve seen BAE in use before, and am considering to add it to my setup. Do I need it? Technically, the receiver should process the sound to some extent (and Yamaha has good presets in that regard), and would Breakaway be an overkill? I also have a 5.1 system connected to the receiver as a secondary setup, for movies, etc. I mostly use the 250W output for general usage. I have a small room, so loudness is a non-issue. Would Breakaway increase the quality of the sound going through a receiver? Also, I got the impression that BAE is poor in number of presets, could I use one of the professional solutions for home usage (i.e. music and movies), as I’ve read they offer more presets? Thanks in advance for all your help! 😀

There are free trials of all the software you mention. I recommend trying BAE with your current setup to see if you find any value in it. Remember though, you can’t process any 5.1 signals yet, only stereo signals – that means BAE goodness is restricted to audio playback or TV/movies in stereo.
