Hi Leif,
Just found out about Breakaway and was very impressed, so much so I bought a licensed copy within the first 2 hours of testing.
It’s a real pleasure to use well authored code. As a HW engineer who writes code for imbedded applications, I can appreciate the hard work that went into it.The presets are great. The Radio Magic preset does a nice job of sweetening the midrange, but as knightrider said it’s a bit boomy on the low end. Any bass adjustment suggestions to off set this some?
I like this preset if it’s throttled back a bunch on power & speed (20’s and 30’s range). Zenith and Ref-Heavy are faves also. Will you offer a preset designed for voice someday in the future?
I would love to have a preset that emulates the old analog Optimod 9000A AM processor (Perhaps the 8100A FM unit too for fun…)As another suggestion, it would be nice to tap into that vast knowledge of yours and write a tutorial on the fundamentals of audio processing. And I don’t mean a technical document explaining the mechanics of how a compressor/limiter works, but rather describing how to achieve specific sound shaping through the interactions of the adjustments. As we all know audio processing is largely a subjective science, and because of this there seems to be so little documentation that explains this science on an intuitive level. Perhaps you can be the first.
Thailand… ahhhh… wonderful place. Great people and culture. I spent some time there a few years back scuba diving north of Phuket in the Similan Islands. Can’t wait to go back some day.
Cheers

Thank you for your comments 🙂. Yes – it was a royal pain in the neck, took forever, and I’m still exhausted from it. One of these days though I’ll get productive again 😉.
The Radio Magic preset is very over the top in every way, in my humble opinion, but throttling back Speed does indeed open it up a lot.
What do you mean by "designed for voice"? Do you mean, feed dry unprocessed microphone voice through (as acquired by a high quality sound card and a high quality mic) and process similar to what a Symetrix 528 or a DBX 286A would do?
Or, do you mean something to listen to books-on-cd with, which have most likely already been pre-processed by something like the above described units?
Emulating a processor designed for AM or FM is impossible with Breakaway because it does not do pre-emphasis limiting. Doing that would only degrade the sound for the applications it’s intended for. I have however written an FM processor as well, and emulating the processor you mentioned would be holding it back 😉.
Thailand is a nice place indeed. I like it a lot – I feel like I can be myself much more than I could even in my home country (Sweden), let alone the U.S.! The language is challenge but doable, and it’s been a lot of fun learning. Phuket is way down south – I’m way up north (far away from the tourist trails). Quite different up here, even more enjoyable if you ask me 🙂.

Bit slow on this reply. Being totally absorbed with my own embedded processor code writing project (inertial navigation sensor array), I seem to have forgotten this thread.
My reference to the Optimod AM system was to create a preset that "sounds" like the 9000A unit (after demodulation) but does not perform the premphasis limiting/clipping or NRSC filtering.
The Orban 9000A makes voice work sound very warm in texture with good spectral balance control. I listen to a lot of audio books, web feeds (voice), and old radio shows from the golden age of radio. Having a voice band preset would be a nice way to add a bit of sparkle to these types of audio sources.Anyway, Breakway works like a champ for my music needs as is. It’s also a great enhancement for my little FM broadcaster which alows me to wirelessly listen anywhere around the property and sound really really good.
Cheers 😀

PS. from going through all the recent threads, it looks like you will have to offer a version of Breakaway/Aeromax for pirate broadcasters 😉.
