I have read and re-read the pricing details on the BA1 site, and I am damned if I can get my head around all the options. Sadly, several other BA users in Australia have contacted me as I am an Admin on this forum, and I haven't been able to help them. This is not a reflection on the website, nor the pricing model. It's probably that I am just too dense to comprehend it.

Let's take my case. I was a BA DJ user, so I (unfortunately) don't qualify for a free upgrade. OK, so, my immediate needs are for one HD core for playing music in my home studio. This costs US$149. Now, I would really prefer to run it as a service, and therefore need the Remote Control capability. Add US$99. So, for US$248 I would have everything I need to play my music through BA1 as a service, and still be able to "talk" to it if I want to change a preset or whatever.

    Am I right?

That is how i understood it anyway from reading it. You basically pay per core licence and for BA-remote. So if you want a hd core and BA-remote, you will pay for licences for each. If you want an fm core as well, you pay for a licence for that.

You can also make the settings in the app, and once your done run it as a service. But the remote controle makes live easier, and you can also control and monitor it from other locations / systems.
The streaming encoders are also necessary i guess, unless you use your own software to stream. I did use the Edcast DSP plug-in in the old BBP to do that job.

As I understand it, you don't get the option to run as a service UNLESS you buy Remote Control.

The "Management Package" license allows use of BaRemote, HTTP server, stream receiver, and running as a service.

Jesse and Milky are both correct.

    I wrote the text here:

    http://www.breakawayone.com/buy/

    Management Package

Applies to the entire processor, all cores, on one computer.

    Includes:

Full, direct IP remote control through BaRemote, including Outbound Connection to go through a firewall at the processor site.
BaRemote include file recorders and client audio, for streaming any audio patch point to you remotely. Also includes Remote software updating.
        HTTP server, useful for automation.
Running as a Service. This improves audio stability (realtime priority) and site security, as no user needs to be logged into the machine.
Stream Receiver – one per processing core. A robust, constant (adjustable) delay Icecast/Shoutcast receiver for use as the input source.
Main input becomes backup, for a local playout system.
Diversity Delay, up to 10 seconds. For keeping synchronized across different broadcast mediums.
        IP address management

When it says Package X includes feature Y, I thought it was strongly implied that without Package X, feature Y is not included. 🙂

If you can recommend any language changes to make it clearer, I'd be happy to take them under consideration.

BaOne does have a lot of paid options. I really, really wanted there to be a free upgrade path for existing users — both as a way of rewarding people for their patience, and as a way simplifying support. Improved audio, improved stability, flexibility and controls, and certain extra features. At the same time, BaOne can do a lot of things that weren't even on the map the last time around :). It wouldn't make sense to ask people to pay for features they don't need (I certainly wouldn't want to do that!), so that's why they are options, which are by definition optional.

    Best,
    ///Leif

Thanks for your explanation, Leif. I am really not that illiterate, but I guess I found the balance of "goodies" in each option a little hard to understand. Your grasp of English is perfect.

From reading your other posts, the inference is that running as a service is highly desirable, yet it is bundled in with other goodies which, to me are of little consequence. So, I have the choice of only running in foreground or adding AU$145 to my costs (the US exchange rate is currently seventy cents) to buy numerous options I won't actually use.

I love the new sound of BAOne, and it is obviously where you will spend your energies into the future, but I cannot justify a $350AU spend for one HD core and remote management, so I guess I will stick to my dead-in-the-water Breakaway DJ.

    Hi Leif,

Do you know when we will be able to purchase the RDS option? I'm eager to combine my licensed FM Core with RDS so that the trial liners will stop playing. Should I reach out to Keith about this?

Thanks again to updating software and allowing legacy BBP licensees to upgrade..

Yes I'd contact Keith about it. You should be able to order it even though it's not in the store yet. But yeah, hopefully that gets added to the store soon also.  ::)

I am still a little confused.
If I take advantage of the free upgrade for old Breakaway live users, will I have to purchase the streaming addon if I want to stream directly from Breakaway One?

Yes, the streaming module is an extra purchase. But well worth it!
