Hi,
I've recently purchased a new pair of Beyerdynamic DT770's (80ohm) in combination with a Creative Sound Blaster Z soundcard. The sound is phenomenal but BAE still 'enhances' the sound, especially on bad recordings. I've set up an EQ on my soundcard with the pre-amp turned down (as to minimise the possibility of distortion).
What I've noticed, though, is that in some bass-heavy cases, there is a slight crackle. I've fiddled around with my setup a bit and I've found out that the crackle disappears when I turn up Power or deactivate BAE altogether. I have Power set to 35, Range to 30, Speed to 25, Bass to Normal and Bass Shape to -20. Noise Reduction is also turned on, all other settings like buffer and sample rate are default, changing them doesn't improve anything.
A good example on where there is a lot of crackle is during the first 10 seconds of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ClTE1Jf5HI. It seems like it's the sub-bass that causes it, though it doesn't always occur when there is a lot of it. Is there anything, aside from turning up the Power to max, I could try to remedy this?
Thanks,
Reed
