Long story, short, my laptop is slowly dying. No complaints, as it's now a good seven or eight years old. Can I deactivate the license for Breakaway One, install on the new computer, and re-license using my original code that I still have written down? If not, I'll buy the a new license. I mean, it's only money, right? And this is well worth it.

I'm sorry to appear so vague, but I really haven't been there yet. As I understand, the licence is tied to the MAC address of the network card, so a new licence will need to be generated. I'm not sure of the procedure, so this could be a learning experience for all of us.

Drop Keith (keith@claessonedwards.com) an email to find out, and please let us know how you go.

Yes, it's what happened to me a couple of years ago: my hard disk broke and I had to install everything from start. I did wrote an email (maybe Keith) and I had a new licence with the new mac address. Easy and quick  🙂

It must have been one of the old Breakaway software then, with already 5 authorizations on the same license, or you would not have to email anyone.  Once BreakawayOne is licensed to a specific computer (via the MAC address), you can do anything you want to the operating system, or hardware, as long as that network adapter with that MAC address is in the computer… you should be able to re-authorize the same license, on the same hardware.

This is why it makes sense to get a cheap (under $100) fanless computer with Intel (i5 or new 4 core Atom) cpu that can be an appliance for many years to come, which you can completely firewall and/or not connect to the network at all if you can help it, and it just sits there processing audio for the next 10-20+ years 🙂

Sorry JesseG, I didn't write exactly what happened to me. I had a pc crash and I had to be on air. So I set up my studio pc to be on air. I had a new licence to broadcast from that pc (new mac address). Then when the Live pc came back I reinstalled the licence on that pc.

So, getting a new license was very easy to do. Keith walked me through everything in his reply to my initial e-mail message.
