Hi Guys,
I see a few people have posted about not being able to activate older Breakaway versions. The advice given was to email kieth direct etc. Forgive me if I've missed some posts that tell everyone "it's time to move on" and we must all move to the new breakaway one…. But all I can find is a general word that the authentication server is down.
Whats the final word please? I would really like to stay on BAP….. I just don't feel the newer one is there yet. There is heaps of cool new things an they are great. But the same preset does a different sound and I hear some AGC pumping and riding that the older one just seems to not have…..
Can we stay on the older one and know if we need to re install on fresh hardware we aren't going to get forced to upgrade please?
January 19, 2019 at 12:53 pm #14299MilkyKeymasterI have no "final word", but I will seek answers.
February 10, 2019 at 6:22 am #14300Peter TateParticipantAm I missing something? This can't be the right way to treat a paid up customer!
February 23, 2019 at 9:56 am #14301Peter TateParticipantI can't be the only person not happy with the new Breakaway One? Every person I know that likes it has this overly loud and muddy sound. No thanks!
Found my AGC problem. Only one left to solve now is this licensing thing. What gives please?
February 25, 2019 at 2:02 am #14302joshagnewMemberYou're the only one complaining, Peter.
The original Breakaway is legacy, unsupported software now.April 6, 2019 at 3:03 pm #14303Peter TateParticipantThanks teletronix-telecom….. I found what it was…..

What was it?April 7, 2019 at 11:49 pm #14305Peter TateParticipantHi Jesse….. Nothing major…. I simply turned off bass enhance (I Think). It was a fair time ago.
Can you give me the final word please on being able to stay on the older? That's truly what I'm after. Thanks buddy.
May 8, 2019 at 2:09 pm #14306JesseGMemberThe authorization servers are now offline, after having removed the last product that was being sold that needed it, which was Breakaway Audio Enhancer, and giving time for those last people that bought it to authorize it to the computer they will use it with.
Sorry that it was done quietly but, yes, the old authorization server that handled all of Leif's software until the last few years. Upgrade paths were provided for its Breakaway users to switch to BreakawayOne for free.
The old authorization server was also setup to stop giving out new authorizations after 5 per license anyways. We figured this was good enough for people to be able to correctly register Breakaway on the 1 computer they are allowed to put each single license on, and to deal with people's OS re-installs etc. And that it was low enough to prevent any real abuse for whatever reason, with minimal hands-on support needed for legit outliers.
So if you were able to "re install on fresh hardware" in the past, then you were being a bit naughty already. 😉
The new authorization server/methods will lock the license to a specific hardware, the first time that it is authorized. It can be re-authorized as many times as you want, if it's the same hardware.
May 8, 2019 at 2:29 pm #14307JesseGMemberThat aside…. 🙂 were you able to find a sound closer to what you want? I see you disabled bass enhancer in whatever preset you used as a starting point.
Did you find the controls for Gain Riding -> Speed? That's the overall speed of the Input AGC.
May 28, 2019 at 12:40 am #14308Peter TateParticipantThanks heaps for the explanation Jesse. Very informative and appreciated. Yes, I can see there would be people that would take benefit of what leeway the system has and run a mile with it! Thanks again! That's all I wanted to know… The cone of silence approach was getting old (like me). 😉
I use Twente as a base preset and pretty much start dialing most settings back from there. I look for a more "believable sound" one that is nicely leveled and survives (what I call) the clock radio test. The Clock Radio Test refers to spectral pumping of the mids where advertisers have the message "they pay you for". It's no good when the vocals of a song or the words of an advert get swamped by heaps of bass or other bands. The Believable Sound refers to how it sounds compared to what you put in.
Today's music is arguably already smashed…. Today's smart boxes need to know when to just "sit back"… does breakaway one do this?
cheers buddy
Thanks againJuly 2, 2019 at 12:21 am #14309ceatrice gloverMember[quote author=Peter Tate link=topic=5616.msg19720#msg19720 date=1547813671]

I need help with breakawaydj…..please someone help me?July 22, 2019 at 10:22 pm #14310MilkyKeymasterI am also an owner of BADJ, and have accepted that my purchase price of $99 is lost forever. There are many utility programs that have been released in the past from many developers that simply fade away as technology moves on. Breakaway DJ is one of them.
I understand that the total sales of this product was quite low, so the cost of maintaining it and keeping the licensing current was higher than the returns.
