I read somewhere I here (I think) that JessieG recommended setting MP3 and .WAV files at 85 or even better 83 when using replaygain and .wavgain. JessieG would you please tell me what levels work best? I was normalizing to -6 but on higher compression files I can tell or hear a difference in that the audio sounds fuller. My goal is to get everything sounding the same. Recently invested in a Delta soundcard and I’m getting ready to bring on a new computer when Breakaway updates come out so I am working to get my library squared away.

Actually any and all knowledge from JessieG or anyone else on here is greatly appreicated. I spent hours on hours and then many weeks that turned into months to arrive at the settings I use for breakaway. But to me those settings are optimal, however I know processing more about one’s taste than exact science.

JesseG originally had me mp3gain all my mp3s to 83db. You also have to select the option to "Don’t Clip when…".

Also, as far as I understand, there should never be any "quality" or perceptive difference in the audio based on the mp3gain adjustments. It just re-works the volume (again, here I don’t understand it fully) so track-to-track sounds consistent.

I certainly would also appreciate the extra background on what goes on inside mp3gain.

    Thanks.

Oops, it was 85dB, not 83.

ReplayGain isn’t normalizing to the highest peak on an mp3 or FLAC, and it’s only effecting the file when it plays back, so it’s on destructive. What it’s making the same is an average loudness.
