M-audio revolution 5.1 works oke
October 27, 2009 at 6:51 pm #8656yorkie98ParticipantX-Fi XtremeMusic does work fine, just be sure to download the drivers from the web and in the creative control panel, turn off all FX, EQ etc otherwise it will be locked in 48Khz mode. Audigy 4s also work well too.
October 27, 2009 at 7:29 pm #8657Lee XSMemberDon’t forget to separate the good from the bad:
For example,
Realtek HD Audio On-board cards do work but are dirty.
The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS’s aren’t super clean either.on the other hand the:
ESI Juli@
M-Audio 192
Marian Traceare all sweet, with the Marian being super sweet…but you get what you pay for.
Not sure about any of the others. 😉
October 28, 2009 at 1:30 am #8658LeifKeymasterActually Realtek HD Audio on-board can be excellent. It really depends on the motherboard.
I have a couple of cheap Asrock Dual-VSTA motherboards with Realtek 883, with DC COUPLED outputs (since they are so cheap they omitted the coupling capacitors), and as a result they’re EXCELLENT for mpx, pristinely clean.
You do need a scope to find out whether your board is good or not.
All the ones in the list are usable, but the only ones I really recommend are Marian and Juli@.If you HAVE to use a laptop, which I don’t recommend to begin with, EMU 0202 is the best choice.

October 28, 2009 at 11:22 am #8659Lee XSMemberRealtek 883 hey!
That may be worth noting for anyone building a fresh system just for BBP. 🙂
October 28, 2009 at 1:32 pm #8660NorthSoundMemberWhat about Trace Alpha ? it seems very good, high quality and costs only 139 Euros…
Anyone tried this soundcard ?October 28, 2009 at 3:17 pm #8661LeifKeymasterLee: Nope, it would not 🙂. The thing is, it depends entirely on the motherboard manufacturer. That particular Asrock board was only good because Asrock cheaped out and omitted the coupling capacitors, yielding a completely dc-straight design. Most boards include the capacitors. Hello tilt!
NorthSound: I’ve heard that Trace Alpha is DC straight but I have not verified this for myself. If it is really DC straight, then Trace Alpha would be an excellent choice.

October 28, 2009 at 4:25 pm #8662Lee XSMemberInteresting stuff Leif, you know, I think I may have some Asrock boards laying around with the Realtek 888 chip in them, which I think is slightly newer than the one you mention so I might have a play about with those to see what I can uncover…… 😉

October 28, 2009 at 5:11 pm #8663BokiMemberyes, alc 888 and best one 889 is better then 883.
And Leif is absolute right !
It is important on what motherboard is chip. And other things, like psu, case, …October 29, 2009 at 1:57 am #8664LeifKeymasterLee, easy enough — scope it out 🙂. Make a 1 Hz squarewave and see if it passes without any tilt. If so, you’re in luck.

October 31, 2009 at 12:37 pm #8665TempicoMemberI’m using the Audiophile 192.
Here in my region most of the users have an ESI Juli@..Is there a great difference between these two?
I don’t mean the price. 😉
Quality , specs , etc etc.October 31, 2009 at 4:31 pm #8666LeifKeymasterNo great differences as far as I can tell. Both are good cards, and perform very well.

Creative Professional E-MU 0404 aangeboden PCI
I see the USB version is supported, but what about the PCI version ? is it any good ?
Thanxs..
November 2, 2009 at 8:58 am #8668LeifKeymasterEMU 0404 PCI works, hardware performance alright, but the drivers are a pain in the neck.
