Hi Leif and All,
I am posting here because people looking at this forum seem to be like minded individuals with knowledge in similar areas. Also, the Breakaway Pipeline makes me think it should be possible.
I have an E-MU 1616m card and since installing 4GB on my machine (Vista x64 now W7 x64) and now 6GB, the card errors (perfect with 2GB, glitching audio with 4GB and no audio whatsoever with 6GB) when sending audio out from the Patchmix desk to WAVE L/R HOST … i.e, a Windows application. For Breakaway, it’s all ASIO so all I need is an ASIO send and return to process it. If I want to send that processed audio to e.g Skype, I need to send it via WAVE to Windows Audio (WDM or whatever).
Is there any third party app…similar to the Breakaway Pipeline…out there that can essentially bridge ASIO and WDM? So, take and ASIO send and output it as an audio device to Windows. I guess it would have to exist and a separate audio device.
Perfect world would be going into Breakaway and selecting Input as ASIO CHANNEL 1 and Output as Breakaway Pipeline 1. See what I’m trying to do?
Thanks for any ideas. I hope you understand my rather rubbish explanation of the problem 🙂
Torsten.
September 5, 2009 at 6:31 pm #8262LeifKeymasterASIO -> WDM is kind of a pain in the neck because of the differing structures.. With ASIO you open the whole sound card whether you want to or not, whereas WDM devices are more like virtual devices, a single sound card could have one device per channel or pair of channels.
To do it properly, one would need an ASIO app which opens as many channels as necessary, has asynchronous SRC, and feeds to / records from WDM devices.
I don’t know of any program that does this (especially not for Vista or x64), but I guess I don’t quite understand how this would solve the problem, if the sound card is completely non-functioning with 6gb of ram in your machine? That sounds like a serious hardware / driver level problem, not one that could be solved in software.

September 6, 2009 at 9:16 pm #8263TDCatMemberThat’s the thing. The soundcard is working perfectly in every way except when sending audio to Windows (i.e recording). Everything plays correctly in the Windows environment and the ASIO environment is faultless.
So, say on one of my mic channels, I can put an ASIO send on it to get the audio out to another ASIO application but if the application only supports ‘Windows’ audio (e.g Skype) I have to put the WAVE L/R HOST inline to get the audio from the mic out to the ‘WDM’ environment.
That’s the only bit that doesn’t work. I thought if a third-party app could take from an ASIO send and bridge it to WDM it would do the job of the broken bit.
Thanks for looking anyway. I know it’s not really a Breakaway question! Appreciated.
Torsten.
