Now I just gotta get that authorization code emailed to me. This is what I get for ordering at 1 a.m. on a Saturday, right? I’d like to share a few quick thoughts.

One- it’s amazing what we get for $29.95, really. FM mode, and so much more. In 1997, my instructor for Intro To Audio said that some day, software-based processors would both outnumber and outperform hardware units. Looks like he was right, at least on that second count.

Two- the designers of this are so right when they say source material matters. I have two copies of "Bang A Gong" by T.Rex. One copy is mint vinyl, the other a remastered CD track that is the exact same edit/take/etc. Identical versions, in other words. The 45 sounds great with Breakaway. The CD track sounds like crap, and that’s not Breakaway’s fault. The remastering is just that bad.

Three- running the sound through Winamp with a few choice VSTs, into Breakaway, makes for the most amazing radio-style sound. As a child of the 70s, that’s something I truly appreciate.

I remember buying Octimax years ago and thinking "wow". How times change.
