Hi, I luckilly found this while searching for something entirely differenent on a "compression" wiki site. I say luckilly, because I’m an owner of VL which was the best thing ever created for iTunes and then Apple busted it with iTunes 6 (or was it 7?). Finally, the company that sold VL wouldn’t support this great tool (bunch of bozos, and I know the author/programmer had nothing to do with these decisions). Now there’s a company you want to avoid investing in when this whole market turns around – zero vision!
Anyway, didn’t want to rant too much so here are a few Q’s on Breakaway:
– what’s the main diff between the Winamp plugin verion and general windows version?
– I use iTunes still, so would Breakawy for Windows kind of work like VL did?
– Does Breakaway for windows work for any audio app; in that case, why bother with Winamp plugin?
– Any chance us poor VL owners could get a discount? I guess I don’t mind paying again, as long as this one is supported longer than VL was.Thanks.

Glad you found us!
Yes, I know all about crappy management. The whole thing was a disaster — Never again!
quote :– what’s the main diff between the Winamp plugin verion and general windows version? The difference would be that the winamp plugin version would work only for Winamp, whereas the general windows version works for all programs.

There may never be one, it doesn’t seem to be worth it. We’ve have a few inquiries, but with the low sales projection, it would have to be an expensive product to make it worth the development effort, and sales would then be even lower or non-existent. For now, I’m focusing on the different standalone flavours of Breakaway.

Yes, this one will be supported properly. ClaessonEdwards isn’t run by morons 😉.
Best regards,

There is a discount if you purchase 3 copies of Breakaway. And as a former user of VL, I can honestly say that if you liked VL, you will absolutely love BA. The sound is much better and there are more adjustments. I too use I tunes and Breakaway with I tunes is superb!
Now, if I could just get Leif and Keith to get Steve Jobs to put this software into their ipods! Or offer a standalone device that could be used between the ipod output and either headphones or an external source.
Maybe someday!

October 30, 2008 at 6:10 pm #4463AnonymousGuestThanks to both of you for the replies. Leif, are you the developer/programmer of VL/Breakaway? If so, absolute Kudos to your skills!! This is from a long time DSP/audio programmer (although I’m not doing much of that these days).
One last quick question, is the licensing of Breakaway tied to the hardware or the person (with some sort of maximum, like Kaspersky AV lets you have up to 3 PC’s with one key)? I have two PC’s that I’d like to use it on, my laptop and my desktop. Is that two lics, or one? Sorry if this is all in a FAQ somewhere, but I didn’t find it.
Thanks again,
Yatmandu

If you guys can convince Steve Jobs to put a version of this software into their iPods, I’d like to buy stock in your company! LOL.
November 1, 2008 at 5:26 am #4465LeifKeymasterYes, I’m the developer/programmer/inventor 🙂. Thank you for the acknowledgement!
Indeed, DSP is not easy, especially not when making something easy to use for consumers!
Two PCs is two licenses, but we do have the multiple discounts, so it shouldn’t break the bank. 🙂
