Hi guys!
After much ‘trial and error’ I am still finding that there is not a ‘be all/end all’ preset for Active Rock/Metal/Classic Rock.
I was wondering if it was possible to request a new preset that would be fairly transparent, but still re-eq the classic (clean) and current (muddy) releases for high energy rock music.
I’ve fiddled with Plutonium, Rustonium, Eruption and Rock for quite a while (Power, Speed, Final Drive, etc) and can never seem to find the right combination… lol.
Maybe some of you who have the ability to build presets can come up with something?
Thanks again for this awesome product!
July 29, 2010 at 8:12 pm #11176AudioMemberWow! I second this post a 100%, I could have written it myself as I am encountering the exact same problem for this format! It’s actually driving me nuts!
Cheers!
July 30, 2010 at 3:51 am #11177sgeirkMemberHave you tried something like a compellor in front of the card?
Or are you generating the audio on the machine itself?
July 30, 2010 at 12:02 pm #11178AnonymousGuestHi sgeirk,
I am generating audio on the same machine 🙂
Here’s my primary setup:
Pentium Dual Core
4GB Ram
ESI Maya 44e
SAM Broadcaster 4 (Soon to be RadioDJ)
Breakaway LiveWe also use lossless audio created ‘direct from disc’ or wave files via digital delivery from the labels.
I guess what I’m looking for is a sound that is similar to that of Leif’s older project ‘Octimax’. Aside from a little distortion, the ‘Rock’ preset did a pretty good job of ‘re-mastering’ muddy & clean audio.
Knowing that the audio core in Breakaway is far superior, I’d LOVE to see a preset that pulls out the detail of new releases and drives back some of the mud… lol.
Thanks again!
July 30, 2010 at 2:27 pm #11179sgeirkMemberI find that for over-the-air Plutonium/Breakaway actually does a magnificent job on today’s sludgy, hypercompressed material, the AGC does a much better job than the expensive boxes!
Relatively? It’s impossible to undo what’s been done in the mastering facility.
July 30, 2010 at 2:45 pm #11180AnonymousGuestHi sgerik!
I totally hear you…lol.
It would require an act of god (or a complete remix) to fix some releases (e.g. Metallica’s Death Magnetic)…lol.
As far as my needs for processing go, we are an internet only station, so I am looking for more of a clean, balanced, well-rounded sound. Transparency would be key 🙂
We broadcast in WMA Pro 10 @ 128K so there are little to no artifacts…
I’m not one who subscribes to the whole ‘louder than anything else’ theory… I like the idea of more audio detail than audio drive 🙂
Plutonium is close to what I’m looking for… Eruption’s EQ settings are pretty close too (with significant Speed and Bass reductions) but it’s not quite there…
If there was a way to import the old Octimax rock settings into Breakaways audio core I think we’d have a ‘Home Run’… lol.
July 30, 2010 at 5:09 pm #11181Lee XSMemberYou need to upload samples of your current sound and describe what you don’t like about it and if you can show us somewhere that sounds like what you are looking for to compare to.
I find it hard to believe that out of all the presets there’s nothing transparent enough for you? But I could be wrong so prove your case. 😕
July 30, 2010 at 5:56 pm #11182AnonymousGuestHi Lee,
I hear ya… I’ll up some samples of what I’m running into now and try to find something that sounds like what I’m looking for by early next week 🙂
Thanks in advance for your help!
July 31, 2010 at 8:01 pm #11183JesseGMember…and try the Motor City preset while you’re at it. I tried to make it impart a rock sound on everything, while being as slow and transparent as I could get. You may want a bit more bass on it, but I left the bass a tad low on purpose to put it somewhere in the 1980s as far as what the current sounds of rock albums were at the time. About in the middle so far.
This is Motor City without anything changed. The #1 metal (classic) net station in Europe.
http://91.121.201.88:8000/listen.plsAnother one that you might like is Helix, probably with the bass turned down a tad. I have a slightly updated version of that which is coming out with the new Breakaways, and I have a feeling that Helix fans will enjoy it. Not a major change, of course. (Moon & Spoon legacy, and also Jill FM… both have updates coming too)
And of course try Rustonium. It’s *still* my favorite preset overall for a more processed sound. It always seems to do the right thing, and it has pretty good parents (Plutonium and Rusticity).
I have another preset coming out called Tokyo that keeps blowing my mind tho. It’s so smooth and so in your face, at the same time. The midrange on it is unreal, and never muddy. I can’t wait till I decide it’s done, and of course for you guys to hear it.
