    I am playing music videos on the following;

      – Acer Netbook AOD270 with an  Atom N2600 1.6GHz  processor, 2 core, L1 56 kb, L2 1024 kb, 2G DDR3 RAM
      – Windows 7
      – JRiver Media Centre
      – Breakaway Audio Enhancer (for volume levelling)

At times playback becomes slow. I am guessing the CPU does not have enough grunt.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

    Regards,

    Mark

Does it happen to all the videos or just the HD videos?
Atom is not a good cpu for HD playback, I think,,
if it happens only to HD videos, then it's not an issue with Breakaway Audio Enhancer.
Try using a lightweight media player for HD playback, such as "The KMPlayer"

    Here's the link : http://www.kmplayer.com

and with whatever player you're using, see if it has an option to automatically drop (video) frames, so that at least the playback speed won't slow, you'll just get less FPS (frames per second).  I'd suggest getting a better GPU too, for hardware decoding, but being a laptop you're basically stuck with what it has.

Getting a new GPU is not the perfect solution,
All the video formats cannot be decoded by the GPU. And you want to keep your hardware unchanged.
So, did u try the KMPlayer? It decodes videos using internal codecs (Which uses the cpu)

This player is not a cpu heavy player. It only uses a fraction of your cpu for HD playback.
Also try using the VLC media player.
Don't use K-Lite codec pack. It's a heavy CPU drainer.
